Default Working with Color and Composition for beadmakers

Free download. 25 pages, no pictures.Lots of work involved to get the most benefit from this. If you are ready to grow in this area and feel you need a jumpstart, download and print this.( Caution: Reading only, will get you small value. Hands on will pay you handsomely.) Go to my friends website Starfieldglass.com and click on Selecting Color Artistically below main pictures. Good Hunting.

Krisby16. Answering your private question, someone else might run into this also. If you can't find a color match in your fan deck then you might have to go back to a paint store and look under 'Deep Base Colors'. Carry your rods with you that are giving you trouble. I can't imagine having Lapis not being available for color planning. (Most fan decks have a section in the back for Deep Colors but your brand may not)

Very interesting read.

I'd love to see a couple pictures of your "final" paint chip pages.

Lyndaj , I had to weigh the merits of including pictures with this tretise very carefully and decided not to. Being such an 'old' guy that I am, I understood that if I gave you pictures of my finished color boards some 'lifelong shortcutters' would get out their magnifying glass and start listing my combinations. That would be shortchanging them horribly. The main idea is to get YOU to have your own learning experience with sound color principles and work with it till color flows out of your fingertips. I have followed your posts over the years and know that you have a very sharp mind, scientific in its training I suspect. I'm tickled that you have found this. If you will "bathe in Color" for awhile like I outline here it will give you the 'hard won' tools to grasp any bead situation you care to place your hand to. TIM

Tim,

While at first I thought pictures would be useful, as I worked through comparing rods and paint chips, I concluded that "Color is in the eye of the beholder." Sometimes there were 2 paint chips which were really close, and I went with my eye and my gut feeling, but someone else may have gone a different way. I think it's more valuable for users to do the process themselves, and find the colors that personally work for them.

It is time consuming, but I'm finding that I'm re-discovering the qualities of some lesser-used colors in my stash. I'm anxious to get to the boards! I'm not a formal student of art, so come of the common/sensible combinations for some may not be obvious to me. Oh, the possibilities...

Thanks for your work on this, and for sharing for free.
Kris

There's pretty much a college course amount of work involved in this paper. I haven't started on it yet, but I'm going to start with the files soon and then the paint chips. All, of course, while trying to maintain the rest of my life...

I got some magazines and started to look at the ads to pull for my files and got distracted. I have ideas for at least four different beads that I got just looking at the ads. So now I'm going to torch instead of looking at magazines. I can't wait!

This is a fantastic piece of writing and an excellent exercise in color theory for artists... thank you for all the work you put into it!

Celeste! What a hoot! I know exactly what you mean. In fact I built that inevitable source of inspiration into the color learning process. You aren't the only one who sees well crafted color and design and immediatly thinks how to incorporate it into their work. Keep with the developement process, it's a lifetime endeavor.
Thanks Kalera, That means alot, TIM

Can anyone send me a copy of the article? Or just copy the direct link? I can't seem to find it on the site, for some reason.

I'd also like a copy of this article. Can anyone forward it or post it somewhere?

Same here. Tried to find it on the website, but it seems no longer available.
If someone still has a copy floating around, could you forward it? (I hope the author is ok with this?)
