What color is this and where can I get more?
Does anybody know what color this is? I'm down to my last rod and I really want more. It didn't have any labeling on it. It's not periwinkle. It's darker and turns purplish when heated. It also has a thin stripe of clear in the center. Does that mean it's Vetrofond?
Here are some beads with this glass as a base.

Frantz had an odd lot of periwinkle a while back. He called it dark periwinkle. I think the number was 222. The original stuff was handpulled, but he's got machine pulled now.

591222 Effetre Dark Periwinkle? I will check my rods for a clear core tonight.
I have some Ornela that is similar in color, I will check that too.

I think Wedgewood is from Lauscha?

Yes, Wedgewood is a Lauscha color. Could very well be that one, too. If it seems to work stiffer than normal Effetre opaques, I'd say it's Lauscha.

Thanks for the guesses so far. I think we can rule out Wedgewood because I don't use Lauscha. I don't remember ever buying the Dk. Perwinikle, but I wouldn't completely rule it out. I always thought it was opaque violet ink blue, but I might've been dreaming because I don't see it for sale anywhere.

My guess would be Lauscha Hawaiian Purple ... but than I saw that you don't use Lauscha.
So there goes my theory
Let us know if you find out, because that's a lovely color. And fabulous beads!

It's not Hawaiian Purple. It's more blue and it's really soft. I always felt so sure that I would have no problem getting more. That's why I waited until the last rod to look for it. Now I'm starting to panic.

Any chance that you find in your past invoices a clue about what it is?

I've got Laguna Blue and this isn't it. I think I will need to start going through invoices. I have no idea where I got it or how old it is. I must be getting senile.

I'm remembering a color called "Kim Blue" but my memory is a little hazy. Where's Kim?

It may be an earlier version of ink blue. I did a quick search and someone mentioned this.

From what I can recall, Kim Blue is a mix of ink blue and periwinkle. If that's what this is, then I probably won't be able to find it. But I think you can mix your own with this recipe. Guess I'll give it a try.

My recollection is Kim blue was ink blue's first name.
I hope you chime in Kim!

Hi Lynn!
If you use Ornela (Czech glass), it could be 3304.

Try devardi's semi-opaque dark violet blue, I tried to load a pic for ya but I guess the file size is too big (from a cell phone too, pbbbht). I dont know if this helps, but before I figured out the whole "sweet spot" thing on my hot head, the color would turn to a muddy dark blue/green with hint of violet. I hope this helps.

Thank you everyone for your help. I rarely use anything but Vetrofond or Effetre for a base and I buy from usually only 3 vendors so I checked their sites. My best guess is that it is the Effetre hand-pulled Dark Periwinkle that Paula has. And luckily it's on sale! Here's the link:
http://www.flamedame.com/index.php?m...oducts_id=1046
I didn't find a receipt for it, so I can't be sure that this is it. I ordered 2 pounds. Once I receive it and verify that it is the one, I'll let you all know.

My guess is Lauscha Blue Violet 255. It is not the same color as the Hawaiian Purple. Very close, but has more of a bluer shade to it. Your top picture looks a bit like CiM Grumpy Bear, but Grumpy doesn't have the same looking core. It produces a shade between Effetre Periwinkle and Effetre Dark Periwinkle.
Looking at your beads, it looks like you have a more blue base as opposed to a purple glass. In which case, Uroboros Medium Blue, or Lauscha Medium Blue might be the glass.
I got my Lauscha Blue Violet 255 from Flamedame. Click on the link. It should take you directly to the page for this glass. Unfortunately, she is currently out of this color. Here is a picture of the rod that I have. The rod is actually a bit more violet looking. The photo comes up more blue on the webpage here.

Hi Aleta, that is a pretty photo! I had bought some Hawaiian Purple many years ago. I recently gave it away because I never use Lauscha. It doesn't like me. It was more purple than this mystery color. Also these rods are thin, 4-5 mm. Aren't Lauscha rods usually pretty thick? I remember the 2 rods of Hawaiian Purple I had weighed about half a pound.
