Default How do I know???

I have some rods of glass and I don't know what they are. I think they MIGHT be boro...how do I know for sure. I only use 104 and have never used boro! Help! Thanks!

try to melt them. Quick melt, probably not boro.

If you put two equal small gather together, one of 104 and one of the mystery glass then melt and pull into a stringer. If its boro you may not even get them smooth to pull out, but if you can pull it out into stringer then set it on counter to cool if it cracks or if it just curves it might boro or maybe system 96. If it is 104 it should stay straight.

That "quick melt" sure fits....it melted like butter.....like butter I say! ... and it was so beautifully clear! CLEAR!!!! But alas, what came out of the kiln was cracked...sob...sob....

Are you thinking it melts quicker than 104? if so could it be 'satake' (i think I spelled that correct).

Unless it is glowing and drippy, hot glass looks like cold glass.
