batch annealing question
I am about to batch anneal for the first time and want to ask a few questions first. Can I put the cold batch anneal beads into the cold kiln, turn on the kiln [using the normal schedule I do for torch to kiln beads] and anneal this way or does the kiln ramp up to hot to fast? Can I anneal the batch bunch as well as add new fresh beads I am making...both at the same time? Thanks, Bev

You have to ramp up slowly, not full. I do not remember the schedule, but you should be able to find one here using the search function. Or maybe someone will chime in for us!

Here is one I found in another post. I searched batch schedule.
1 - Batch Cycle (Soft Glass only)
from ambient, ramp to 960 over 3 hours (5.33 degrees per minute)
HOLD 960 for 1 hour, 30 minutes
Ramp DOWN to 850 over 2 hours (0.83 degrees per minute)
HOLD 850 for 10 minutes (the pause that refreshes)
Ramp DOWN to ambient over 1 hour (or shut off the kiln)

I think you have to do one or the other, unless you have a set up where you can bring it up to temp and add through a bead door......depends on how you arrange your kiln. The ramp down would be the same in any case.

Bev once your kiln is at the top temp you can continue to torch and add beads with the other that were cold and brought us slowly

I've never done a slow ramp up. I do exactly what you proposed in your first post, earthcolours, and I've never had a problem with breakage. I don't batch anneal very often, but I frequently reheat beads to make repairs.

I think I read that it wasn't a good idea to batch anneal the DH colors.....or am I losing my mind again?
