Default 2 maybe dumb questions form a boro newbie

Ok first DAP. Just so I don't sound like a complete idiot when talking to another boro person is this glass refered to as "dap" rhymes with tap or D A P like FBI.

Second. I don't know how to program my kiln. Mike programed an annealing cycle for moretti into it when he rewired it and I don't want to mess with it and ruin everything. Also I will probably do some boro in the morning break for lunch as I ramp down and work soft glass in the afternoon. So when they say garage at 1050 then ramp down 60 degrees per hour to 960 is it better to have the kiln temp at 1050 and just lower the temp to 990 and leave it for an hour then lower to 960 and leave for an hour or every ten minutes lower the temp 10 degrees? It is a fire brick lined kiln so it holds the heat pretty good. And don't tell me to learn to program my kiln - I got too many other things I'm trying to learn. Besides the instructions for the fuji controler could be written in latin as far as I'm concerned. I have no clue how to follow them.

I am probably in the minority here but I use the term D A P like F B I. I just figured they were initials for Dark Amber Purple, so you would say "D A P" when refering to that color of glass. Too funny, I never really thought about it, lol.

As far as the Fuji controller, I didn't set my program up, Mike did...soooo maybe give him a ring to run through a boro schedule and then run the soft glass schedule.

Good luck

No it stands for DOUBLE amber purple.....and I always call it just double amber purple but refer to it in forums as DAP for ease of typing just like if you were talking about NS (northstar) or GA (glass alchemy)....

Don't ask me about kiln questions or you will get the programs in degrees celicius eg I'll tell you to put the kiln at 565! And while my kiln cost $1699 plus frieght I only got a single phase controller...I am wondering if you can set it to ramp down but I just turn it off....

I say Double Amber Purple in person normally... but type it DAP as well.

Call Mike and he'll walk you through it. It's not hard.

I say "Dee Ay Pee" or Double Amber Purple. Dap (rhymes with 'cap') makes caulking, sealing and adhesive products.

Sorry can't really help with the kiln programming but my understanding is that a slow incremental cool is better than plunging to 990 and then sitting for an hour. The whole point of annealing is essentially garaging the glass at the annealing temperature and then cooling it slowly enough that you don't add new stress to the glass.

That's what I was thinking Bunyip. Have I told you lately that I love your tree?
