How are Pandora brand silver cores made?
Does anyone know how the silver Pandora cores are made/inserted into the beads?
Are they a grommet that is glued in or press fit from either side of the bead, or are they hot cast directly in the hole, or are they cold pressed into the whole like is done with the bead liners that we see around.
My main question is, how do they get the word Pandora on the side of the bead? That looks like it's cast into the metal, which makes me think that the silver core is either cast onto the glass or it's a grommet that is glued or press fit into place.
I guess I could buy one and smash it with a hammer to find out, but I'd rather not waste the money.

I think it's done in two parts but I'm not sure how it's put in

looking at this image I wonder if they are more like grommets. I wonder if they just fool the eye by having one side longer than the other and having a seem closer to the end of the bead. Ill see if I can find a better pic..
http://www.iamjewelers.com/images/pa...rm%20Beads.jpg
ETA: Of yea, I forgot that pandora beads (real ones) are twisted inside. This makes me think that they are really 2 pieces. maybe they fit tightly into a grove of one another and the threading hides the seam. see : http://www.bombayharbor.com/productI...lass_Beads.jpg
looking at it even more, you almost see that the inner threading is a separate layer than the ends. so maybe it is 3 pieces, (or 2 but one end is under the other)

this one is from the pandora website, and you can see its just an insert. I wonder if they have changed out the original design for better pricing...

Thanks for all the images, Jaci. I was thinking that someone could cast their own name onto the side of a core, and make their beads even fancier.

Pretty beads.
I wonder how hard it would be for one of us "little bead shops" to do it.

He's using the term Pandora in his listing.
Why do they only restrict
certain people?

pandora beads always have "ALE" and "925" marked on the rim and always have a threaded core
Pandora is always http://www.pandora.net and they absolutely do not have a factory outlet store, if you're not on that exact site then you're on a fake site
this is a genuine pandora glass bead
i cant make it any bigger but you can see it has ALE and 925 stamped on it, on the other side it has Pandora stamped twice
you really got to feel for Pandora - this is not a genuine Pandora site but they're using their name, their images and their logos - completely lying, none of this is genuine pandora

you can
you just need to buy gazillions of them though, i think minimum would be at least a 1000 and they would not be cheap

Just to set the record straight, I did not mean I wanted PANDORA cores. I meant I wanted cores with MY name. You're so silly, Deb! LOL

no i know, i was just teasing you
when i used to buy "pandora" beads from china that would be the first question they would ask, in fact i'd have to put in big letters on my orders "NO PANDORA STAMP" - then they would say, "but all our big american customers have pandora stamp???"

lol Lori!
I know it's like a 'can-o' but hard to imagine why this site can so blatantly rip off Pandora on so many levels, but all the bead makers on etsy and ebay get spanked for just using the word.
Anyways, if someone wanted their name on a core without buying a gadjillion, you could just stamp it on, tedious but it can be done.

Yes Deb, you can see the name stamp on this bead:
That bead is in a picture that is on every single listing so you can see the quality.

I met a nice lady ay a ceaft show(with a crazy marketing husband with no precedence or common sense) that told me they would soon be 'world wide'. He went on to explain that they were going to be on etsy in a month and that would be the 'world wide' part basically. He wanted 'quality for cheap ass that is wife could paint. She was good. But he was so crazy! So world wide is now just an Internet term.... He said it as though he had opened a few shops around the world.

OMG...really good photography + bead with broken dot = WTF??
On the bead cores, I think the idea of imprinting your own name into them is great! There has to be a way to do that somehow. Hubby and I are going to take a metalsmithing course together one of these days. I would like to make my own cores and cast my own designs.

Ok, I've sort of been leading you all astray saying that I don't know how to put my own name on a core, but I do know a way, two ways actually.
Problem is, the first way (lost wax casting), which can/would result in a beautiful core, is REALLY labor intensive (and you'd have to make a wax mold for every core. The second way (stamping), which I think would result in a not-very-nice looking core, is relatively easy (just tedious 'cause you'd have to do it on every bead).
I studied jewelry making in college (for a year, so not much), cold work and one-off wax casting, and I never learned how to make a reusable cast, so that's my problem. I'd need a reusable cast to make the cores and I don't really know how to do that.
Maybe, I could make a silicone/rubber mold with a bunch of bead core negatives in them, then I'd melt wax into that creating my wax form. Then, using the normal lost wax casting process, I would create a porcelain mold and then cast the silver in that. I don't know how to do mass production of porcelain molds or the silver casting. I only know how to do that one at a time.
Maybe I should contact a company and buy a thousand of those like someone (Deb?) suggested. LOL

On the bead cores, I think the idea of imprinting your own name into them is great! There has to be a way to do that somehow. Hubby and I are going to take a metalsmithing course together one of these days. I would like to make my own cores and cast my own designs.

What I have done is had a stamp of my logo done very tiny...about 3 mm and then I stamp a very thin bead cap and rivet it on to my beads....sorry no pic!
I went thru Tinkertools on Etsy...really good price!
