Shoot for an irridescent lustre such as "Mother Of Pearl. These are thick liquids you coat or paint on the glass after annealing. They are then dried and fired onto the glass in a kiln. You can find lustres in ceramic supply shops. A little bit goes a long way. Ventilate the kiln when ramping up and don't breath the fumes either. These are not so dangerous as other methods. Running the kiln up to the annealing point is all you need.

Titanium tetrachloride is not any safer than stannous (tin) chloride. While titanium may not be quite as toxic as tin, both compounds react with moisture in the lungs to produce hydrochloric acid.

Obviously it is NOT acceptable to vent this outside. Any exhaust needs to be filtered first through a very complicated expensive multi stage filtration system. I work in a shop where such a system is used for offhand furnace work. Costly, complicated, and requires a lot of maintenance.

I once broke an iridized tumbler and tried melting the shards. It was a beautiful orange, but melted to clear.

She had some of her beads iridized after she had annealed them.
She sent them to someone who brought them back up to temp and then sprayed them. She did not do them IIRC.

I have used this stuff on my blown pieces when I used to work out of a shop in Benicia Ca.
It was a mixture of tin chloride, muriatic acid and denatured alcohol, nasty stuff!
We used it inside of a drum that had a fan drawing out the fumes and was sucked through a series of filters before it went outside. This is something you do NOT want to "play" with, it will kill you and others around you.

Nope! I sent 80 fishes to Coatings By Sandberg and they wired them onto a frame and ran them thru a Rainbow II dichro process. It deposited the dichro on one side only of the fish, and I had to use acid etch creme to remove the stuff from the eyes.

Cost about what a round of their dichro cost, and WAY worth the time/effort/expense!

I sent 2 kinds of fish, etched and non-etched. The etched fish came out all soft and silky, and the non came out bright brassy chrome-y colors.
