Simple ventilation...is it possible?
I am hoping that this hood range will work. If so, it would just make my life so much easier and get my studio done so much faster. http://www.tomorrowskitchen.com/FW-3503.html or http://www.tomorrowskitchen.com/KB-36.html.
Thanks for your input
Joyce

Joyce,
Nice hoods! I think either one will work. Here are the calculations based on the hood sizes:
KB36 @ 860 CFM
35.4 x 19.7 = 697.38 / 144 = 4.84 x 125 = 605 CFM
FW3503 @ 870 CFM
47.4 x 19.7 = 933.78 / 144 = 6.49 x 125 = 811 CFM
The only concern is that since both of them are wall mount hoods . . . at 19.7" depth, you may be too close to the back wall. At a minimum, you should line the back wall like a back splash, perhaps with a piece of sheet metal?
Hope this helps!

Thanks Hayley. I might actually get to move my studio inside off the back patio.

Joyce - I just edited my post to add my concern. . . realized the depth of the hood may post an issue.

I had my carpenter install two hoods back to back into one exhust. I waited far too long to do some sort of ventalation. Now I am all set-I love it and it was"simple". Good luck.

I didn't check your links but isn't there something about being sure to get exhausting hoods and not recirculating? or something like that?

Mimi- Does this mean you doubled the depth? That is an interesting idea.
Lorraine_ I plan to vent out the roof. Thanks.

If you go to the links and download the "Installation Instructions" you wil find they are direct vent to outside.....
Only thing I can see to these hoods as a negative is the "grease trap/filters" but then they can be easily removed to increase effectiveness....
Several times these particular hoods have come up as a ventilation solution and if installed properly seem like a very viable solution. But this is just going by the manufacturers specifications.

Dale,
Do you think the depth is a problem? I can see that it could get pretty hot. I am on a Mini CC. I plan on putting up a sheet of stainless steel behind the torch with space betweent he metal and the wall. Thanks.

I don't think depth of hood will be a problem...
For safety it never hurts to have non flammable back board with a airspace behind it, as long as airspace is not sealed, it should be open to convection cooling...
