Default Want to share Bullseye Recipes?

Many people have shared their favorite twistie color combos, floral cane combos, vine cane, and just about everything else that involves more than one color. Usually it is COE 104. How about us BE users share some of our favorites? I'm looking for floral and vine cane color combos. I haven't made many twisties with BE and I really don't know why. I LOVE the BE colors but I tend to use them in solids - as bases for dots or single color spacers. I have put Aurora over Lilly white but I still haven't quite tamed Aurora yet so they aren't anything to write home about. I recently ordered more colors and can't wait to try Very Fine Purple cased with Lavendar Blush Tint. The beads on Bridgetown glass site made with this combo look stunning.

It was also mentioned in one thread about treating Purplicious like EDP to get good results. Any other BE tips to share?

Nancy, You need to work the aurora colors very hot ( white hot ) and cool it fast ( i use a rather thick brass tool ) Heat it again and you will see the colors coming. Repeat the heating and cooling ( just like you would do with Raku ) and stop when you have the colors of your choice and encase it with clear.

Dark Aurora is slightly harder to get the colors pop, and don't soak them to long as the color will turn brownish. Or encase it very thick and you won't have this problem.

The aurora and auroa II are easier to get colors and you won't have problems with soaking them.

Here are some examples

Dark Aurora

Aurora

Aurora II

Don't use Spring green and orange ( opaque ) or pumpkin ornage together you will get cracks

Looking forward to read more tips and tricks

Chrissy

I have used orange and spring green together - if you are getting cracks, you should let BE know so they can look into it. ALL BE glass in intended to be fully compatible with ALL other BE glasses . That's one of the things I love about BE.

Chrissy my Aurora beads look like yours. Maybe I do have it tamed. I saw some Aurora beads that Kalera made and they didn't look like that. But then again we are talking about Kalera here. I didn't want to get creams and light colors I was looking for more vibrant colors. And I guess I'll have to make them at the end of the day so they don't sit in the hot kiln a long time. Thanks for the input!

Chrissy I checked and I have Dark Aurora. I made a wine stopper yesterday. It was the last thing I made for the day. I put it into the kiln with colors I was happy enough with (not great but OK) when it came out of the kiln today it was mud.

I can't believe no one else has any BE hints or tips. Maybe I'll post something in the bathroom ans ask people to check out this thread.

If your DA was mud, you kiln is likely running hot or you didn't encase it.

No I didn't encase it, Squid. Everytime I encase it I get all yellows and cream colors. I don't want that. I want the vibrant colors.

In that case, turn your kiln down 20 degrees as a start. If they still strike in the kiln, try another 20 - just anneal at a lower temp, but do it for longer.

Have you tried striking the DA the same way the other silver striking glasses are worked? Super heat, let cool, waft in flame to turn brown and then heating and cooling cycles? DA will actuall strike alomst identically to Terra, Van Gogh, etc - even when encased.

All of these are encased (pardon the crappy pic!)

I like making vine cane with any lt green opaque, get a blob & roll in green adventurine frit till its covered to your liking, shape into a barrel, add dark stripes (dark trans or black or some of each) encase (or not) & pull. Obviously I am not one for consistency

The base bead and bubble dots are Aurora1 just worked, not superheated or anything. Obviously, the base bead got more heat than the dots did in the process of making the bead, but I think it's pretty cool that they look like two different glasses. The smaller shiny dots are Hematite Luster, reduced.

I wish we had a separate spot like they have for boro. One thread for this will get bulky.

I'll have to back through my bead stash to pull out some info.

As far as twisty recipes, I have good intentions, really, and they started off with labels, and I took notes, but then I got lazy, so there are lots of them that I've used lately, that are mysteries.

My tip for the day, though. Carribean Blue and wisteria transparent. Either use these with silver on them, or fume them, together or separate. Then reduce/normal flame/reduce, etc. The wisteria will turn greenish and they will both get silver glass effects. And if you put wisteria dots on top of a silvered area of a bead, they will turn green, too.

Any particular questions?

I thought I would post this pic of Dark Aurora unencased. It shows the range of colors it is possible to get:

WOW! Is that just from heating and cooling and repeating?

Thanks guys! The base is vintage rose, which is not reactive, but I do get nice colors on it. There's really no special treatment to getting the colors. It's just a matter of different heating and cooling.

Top, handmixed baby and lt sky blue. Bottom nougat. Stringer silvered yellow ochre. The yellow ocher gives the silvered stringer more of a look of dark silvered ivory.

Gorgeous -- I love that drippy reaction color.

yellow ochre. That's what I'm missing! It would have to be an odd lot. Actually, supposedly I do have 3 rods from a freaky pack, will have to go winnow it out of the set.

I never think to mix the glass first ... I think I need about a month of all-day torching. Yeah, that's gonna happen.

Thanks for sharing! Lisa

I recently got some transparent red BE glass. My previous red was red in the rod. The New red is kinda clear yellow and I guess it is supposed to strike to red. But I'm having a heck of a time getting it to strike. I pulled stringer and that didn't even turn red. Any suggestions?

The latest red I got is harder to strike than my last red. My stringer is never red when I pull it. I try to leave a larger blob on the end, and strike that if I'm not going to use it all at one session. Otherwise I can't tell it apart from orange or carnelian. My rods have never been red.

But this red strikes like any other red. Put it on. Let it cool (a lot), and strke the color in.

I think ochre yellow became a regular color named golden green, right?? I think I have rods of both, and they look the same.

I think you're right - I went back and looked at my rods, and I had mislabeled them goldenrod .... still, I finally managed a decent twistie with it, aurora 2, black, and pinkaliscious. Need to take some pics and post 'em. Lisa

There is a nice reaction with vintage rose and antique white. I don't have a picture sorry.

Thank you for the nice comments everyone. That fudge is a weird and awesome color.

Thought this was interesting so maybe you will too. The first picture is DA with silver. Second picture is Khaos with silver. Very similar in my experience. I think I like the DA just a little better.

I adore BE!

This is a great thread!
