Default MAPP or propane

So as I switch out of natural gas, I have the choice between propane and Mapp. I worked with propane, but have not sampled Mapp yet. Of those of you who have experimented with both, which do you prefer and why? Thank you in advance!

In my experience MAPP is far far more expensive and I never noticed any benefits. I used a HH with both extensively and am set on just using propane now. Much cheaper and plenty hot.

Frack. It won't post properly. Difference between MAPP and propane with air is 43*.

I read somewhere that you couldn't get MAPP anymore. It was replace by something called MAPP-Pro and this newer composition didn't burn as hot in air as the original. Is this true? If so, than does anyone know the max temp for the MAPP-Pro compared to propane? Thanks

Thanks for all the info, but even in a perfect world I wouldn't spend all this dough. First off, the business I checked with does not sell tanks...they lease. There is a $45 yearly fee for leasing a MAPP tank, and each filled tank (27pds) would cost $75. I think I'll stick with good ole' propane. Yikes! Thanks all!

Are those charges for an oxy tank or for a larger propane tank or a MAPP tank?

Ooops, sorry...I should have been clearer.
That is $45 yearly fee for leasing a 27# MAPP tank...and then $75 for each filled tank.

Sounds to me like they think they are the only place in town....

That was a 27 pound tank you are speaking of right?

I remember that they changed MAPP to MAPP PRO in some places a few years back due to regulations ( local or state, I forget which ) regarding some of the chemicals and maybe these prices reflect having to get special permissions to bring the old kind of MAPP into the area.

But it sure does sound like a license to print money to me.

Sounds like it to me too Phill. Last time I had a MAPP Pro tank filled, it was not nearly that much, but we're here in flyover land where they make the stuff.
