104coe blacks
A newbie question but I've forgotten anything I used to know about glass!
If I want to do only black and white beads.. which black am I best using? I have rediscovered that intense black bleeds and webs, that effetre black doesn't look very black when on a white bead, and that CIM hades webs as well.
There are lots more blacks out there, cim and reicenbach, what would you recommend for actually black dots on a white bead? For black and white murrini?
Many thanks,
Charli

A lot of people swear by one of the Reichenbach blacks, but I can't remember whether it's the deep black or the dense black.

Aye, I only remember that if I want very crisp edges I should encase the black in some clear but I do remember that there was a good deal of discussion about the various blacks.
But I don't remember enough to be able to answer your question.

R9603, dense black, is probably the one you want. I use it only for stringer work.

I like CIM Tuxedo black for all but the finest stringer work. Just don't overheat, good rule of thumb for clean stringer work anyway LOL

I forget who I learned this from, but encase dense black in ink blue or vetrofond black to get that solid black line without the webbing/spreading.

I use Reichenbach deep black for fine stringer work. It doesn't do the web thing even on ivory. I didn't like it at first, it's stiffer than Effetre intense black but now I'm used to it.

Yes, it's called Black Diamond. It's my go-to for a deep dark absolutely black glass. A hair-thin stringer is still black.

I've been using CIM Hades and CIM Peace as my ultimate layering combination for a few years now, for both raised, stacked dots and melted-in layers. I make a lot of historic reproduction beads with black & white, and this is my tried & true.
