I stuck other beads in there too, they would be in that long from the beginning to end of my session, didnt notice any marks or anything.
that bead was the only pandora one in my torching session. now that I have more and I know I can make it work with my setup (well once anyway!) I will make more pandora beads in a session and see what happens.

ok pandora lovers (or not?)
some of my experimenting...
(3 photos, same arrangement of beads)
They all had various times in the kiln, but it was all at 520c. some of them I could see striking at just one hour in the kiln.
I can confirm that for me to get the purples it HAS to go in the kiln transparent green, not opaque, all the greeny creamy mushy coloured ones are where it was opaque when it went in.
other colours I used in this batch...006 clear, coral, periwinkle, light violet (just dont do it its not worth it! its the one to the right of the lime/light green one, it was a stringer scroll over light violet over white) white and light green
hope that helps somebody...

also one or two of my beads haven't struck all the way around, I am wondering if this is where it has been close to the shelf...heat differences, air getting to it? I dont know, but most of them sit away from the shelf, but my rest doesn't extend the full width of the kiln so only some have had this effect (if indeed it is an effect and not just me heating my bead unevenly somehow?)
enough thread hogging from me now.

Ahhh...I hate you...most of mine come out looking like this one:
I did manage to get some purple out of the very last of my Pandora, by mixing it with Rubino:
I'm still not sure I want more of it - not at the current price. But Madeline - you seem to have gotten it to sing!

Thanks Aimee
I'd not tried it with rubino, I found I had to work it pretty hot to keep it translucent and avoid conditions that make rubino go the nice juicy colours it does!warming it very gently for instance. In fact, I work it like I now work EDP thanks to !ngridh's tutorial.Hot and then let it lose the glow, not somewhere in the middle warm.
and Im re-striking that bead...It had a little streak of purple on the other side so fingers crossed for it!
and yes, the price is scary, I didnt think I'd want any more than my original one stick...then it went purple and I was hooked...oh dear!

That's very nice of you to say.
This is a striking glass I would recommend to a newbie because you don't have to strike it in the flame. Just stick it in the kiln and leave it there for a few hours and Bob's your Uncle.

This vessel is also made out of pandora.
I was surprised that the down part of it struck so pretty. I heated that section up very well and marvered it into shape again, just before it went in the kiln. It actually turned muddy opaque brown and I really thought I cooked the color out of it. But I guess it worked! Should have done that with the whole thing I guess .

Anouk, beautiful. I like that the handles and the base of the vessel match. PURDY.

I was unable to do anything with this glass the first time I tried it and it's been gathering dust ever since. I re-read this thread the other night and pulled out the glass yesterday. I guess the glass gods were with me cuz they turned out! They are kind of growing on me!

Well I think this glass is too fussy. I have a AIM kiln and get nothing from this glass kiln annealed at 970. And it has been put back into the kiln a couple of times. I think it's like a crapshot. Nice beads to you all who can use it.

its what colour it goes in the kiln that matters I personally believe.
I found for me it has to be transparent green (like the rod colour) and it will start to strike within half an hour at 520c.
I have had no success returning ones I didnt like to the kiln, a few got a shade darker but didnt really improve.

Donna, WOW... nice colors. Maybe I'll reread the tips, pull mine out and try again. No great hopes but, hey, you just never know
Madeline, are you saying to heat it up pretty hot to transparent before going into the kiln - rather than having it go in rather opaque-ish???

I havnt worked it for a while, I cant remember what sort of temp it is when it stays transparent, I think I usually work it fairly hot and fast yes, anything you do to make colours strike, dont do that! thats what I found for me anyway.
if it goes in opaque-ish or with opaque-ish streaks, those will most likely come out that pale salmony colour...aka mush!
I know some people have had luck with it going in opaque and still coming out yum, but not me!
good luck!

theres more tips (and pictures) from me on page 17, post 499 & 500
from my montser pandora session I did a While back.
I mentioned my kiln was a pargon sc2, it is the one with the bead door and viewing window if that makes any difference. and I still havnt figured out about those ones that didnt strike all the way around, Im thinking it was probably me though.

Okay, so clearly I've not followed directions properly. I have officially managed to get the poop color some of you speak of. At least I'm consistent...I got it in nearly every bead I used Pandora on.
I'm going to put them back in the kiln to see if there are any changes during a second firing. To put them back in the kiln, do I need to put them on dipped mandrels or can they just go in the kiln loose?

looks like you've reduced it. don't know how to fix that if its already happened. anyone else had to overcome this problem? I would imagine that trying again with a different gas balance set up would improve things, but pandora is a funny one, I wouldnt like to say what balance it likes! (I havn't worked any for a while so I cant remember what the flame on my bobcat looked like!)
I have put mine in the kiln loose when re-striking, just make sure they cant roll around. I sat them on fibre blanket.
good luck! (and it looks like there is a little of the yummy purple under the 'poop', maybe it is only a surface thing, maybe they could be etched?it might be right the way through though, the one to the right of the tab looks promising)

Melissa, I think the reddish color means it overstruck. Read post #456 - she says you can reheat them and get the red off .....but I clearly don't know because mine come out like pond scum every time!

Here are some before and after photos of kiln-striking Pandora:
Before batch annealing:
And after batch annealing at 950F for 4 hours:
The spacers are DH Pandora over a small core of CiM Peace, encased in Vetro clear. Note that the 4 left-most ones had some torch-striking (opaque green), which did not change with kiln striking (if it went opaque, it stayed the color it was). All the ones that went in totally transparent green did kiln strike.
The barrel on the left had a base of Vetro Lemon Ice which turned out to react with the Pandora more than I expected (dark brown). I probably worked him too long with the gravity wave. Striking didn't really help this guy.
The barrel on the right had a base of Effetre Opal Yellow (the really pale version). Since this stayed on-mandrel it was parked in the bead door and didn't strike as well as the off-mandrel ones that were more centered in the kiln.
The round in the middle had a base of Vetro Seashell Swirl.
The purples and blues are just starting to develop, here, so I think I may take these puppies through another annealing cycle to see if I can get more color out of the transparent red/amber.
There's been a lot of questions about how Pandora should look before going in to the kiln so I thought maybe these photos would help.
Regards,
- Becky in MN

Im sure that will be very helpful to people. I never saw mine cold before they were struck. Its interesting to see just how different they are!

This was really helpful.....a couple months ago I made two beads that I loved the color - which was a purple/blue but I couldn't remember what glass I used --- I knew it was a silver reactive but couldn't figure out which one. This past weekend I made a bead from Pandora and put it in the fiber blanket to see what color it would turn out - it was the light green.....I thought oh well I will throw it in the kiln - and voila - it was the purple/blue color I had been looking for all along!!!

Thank you Becky! That was very helpful (and interesting) to see how transparent the bead color was before it was annealed.

I gotta find *some* way to get it to do *something* interesting because I bought a bunch of it ! Sometimes I think I let my "easy" glass sit because I get obsessed trying to make my "difficult" glass work (and I have a LIST) ...
