Default Canadian program?

I live in Canada and would like to support the Canadian version of this program. I've found references to Bravery Bead programs in Canada but can't seem to pin it down to one group.

Is there a group similar to BOC in Canada or would we just send our beads to the hospital of our choice?

I tried looking into it earlier, but the folks I tried contacting at Sick Kids in Toronto weren't around to take my call. I know there's a program in Montreal as well. I think they're all independently run in each hospital and aren't part of a group like the BoC folks though... couldn't find any other resources. maybe someone else can give us a hand trying to get something started? they just opened the new cancer treatment wing at Oshawa General Hospital in the Durham region, and I would love to support my local folks.

The best way to get one started, I believe, is to have someone on the 'inside' at the hospital, like a nurse in the area of interest. That way, you can connect them with Colin Smith at Beads of Courage who can/will make first contact.

Even if there isn't a contact catch up with Colin and hopefully she can start there with you. You can email her at

.

There are copycat programs of Beads of Courage but none as comprehensive, non-profit and as fully researched based as Beads of Courage. Beware of copycats!

If you contact a program and they tell you that Beads of Courage has changed it's name to whatever they're calling themselves, they are not the real deal. Our name has not changed anywhere. We also will not ask any groups to cover travel expenses for any of our staff. These are things that I've heard about some of the other programs over the last few months.

We're not in Canada at the moment, but contact Colin and maybe we can get something going.

I tried contacting Sick Kids too and got nowhere.

I have also tried to get our local hospice going. But they decided to "do their own thing" and made Swarovski crystal bracelets (with all the symbolic colors of the different type of cancer) and sold them to raise funds. They have raised almost 200K now, furnished the entire hospice with the money.

I'm in if you get anywhere with the "new place".

I'm still making beads for BOC tho ... been trying to get the "butterfly beads" made.

We are in contact with multiple hospitals in Canada. There are some other programs running there that are bead programs. These programs do not utilize glass beads or lampwork, all plastic craft kit beads. If you have a children's hospital in mind, I am happy to contact them! just email me at
