Nice setup, well done !!

If you want a quick and easy diffuser you can use a plastic bowl.

Here is a link to the technique:

Thanks Janet. The cart isn't really part of the tutorial... I just happened to have one and on top of it happened to be the ONLY place in my whole workspace that was a free spot where I could set-up a permanent photo station.

I've seen that. Thanks for passing it along.

It's not far off from my first method of DIY photo cube which utilized a lampshade: http://goinggreenjewelry.blogspot.co...new-metal.html

I think all these super cheap ways of setting up a photo cube are just awesome.

Hadar Jacobson uses something similar to the plastic bowl... I think it's an inverted plastic waste bin.

The ultimate low cost diffuser is the white plastic trash bag.

Seriously, I have used one in a pinch and it actually works very well.

It just gives me a good excuse(to Hubby) for getting one of those carts(I've been wanting one for my studio).

Ha ha ha! Okay, gotcha.

As far as I'm concerned, a girl can never have too many things with drawers.

Laura, thanks so much for posting this! I've been struggling with my photography- just haven't been able to get it right yet. I do have a question though. Where are you taking the pictures from? If you are taking them from the front, where the opening is, how are you getting straight down shots? I'm so confused!!! It is just not making sense to me ...I must be having one of my brunette/gray moments

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Although most of my jewelry shots are taken from the front with a tripod that goes to the floor (about 3 feet), the overhead shots are taken with this tripod which merely sits right up there in the photo cube pointing straight down at my object...

... I have the unipod at more of an angle than shown in that photo and the camera is pointing straight down.

Although I have since moved on to an even simpler (and just as cheap) photo system and no longer use a tripod at all. Here's an example.

Yes! I *love* not having to use a tripod (unless I want angled shots).

Did I blog about the lampshade? I can't even find that entry.

The lamp shade bit is at the end of the blog post you have posted at the top of this thread . I'm going to try it!

This is the exact lamp: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-...-Bulb/13278917

The hole at the top is the perfect size to hold my camera in place (I set the timer and step back).

Laura,

I've been looking for gradient paper (not very hard, but still) for the last few years. THANK YOU for your printable gradient backgrounds!!!!!!!

I have Photoshop and easily could have made these myself, but duhhhhh, that never even occurred to me...

Wes.
