What about other pinks? Will they try to replace it?

Default A Sty in Your Eye?

I have heard nothing about Gelly's Sty as a discontinued color. We are out of it at the present time, but more is sure to come soon.

Julie, is that Kathy direct from CIM itself?

It's out everywhere. Including Ed Hoy.

Yeah, I will probably die if I can never make these again. There is no way I can replicate this hue.

You can use any of the pinks on it, and they are all a little different.

I was told by a vendor that Crocus was discontinued too. It was really that they had a couple of batches that didn't turn out quite right and a new run worked and will be available soon

So maybe Gelly Sty uniques are on the way? Like limited runs aren't driving me up the wall already, but some variety in pinks would be nice.

Lisi, is Gelly the base bead color or is it the frit in your bead set?

Thanks for the nice comments on the pink beads!

Gelly's is the base, but it's bright itself, so it makes other pinks pop.

Default CiM re: Gelly's Sty and Crocus

Neither Gelly's Sty nor Crocus will be discontinued.

They are both on the water right now and will be available in the USA in mid July.

Lisi, your Gelly Sty frit beads are simply gorgeous. How do you apply your frit to get it so evenly dispersed? Cheryl

Thanks, Cheryl!

It takes some practice, but what helps is to have your frit heaped up in a spoon shaped holder. Like these, and this one is about the size of a large tablespoon:

Some people like to lay their frit out on a graphite marver. It flattens out and it will be very difficult to get an even coat. When you roll your hot base bead through it, you have to be pretty fast. (the bead has to be hot, but not molten) One swift motion, because the glass cools very quickly and it may not "stick" well. It's about the right temp and timing. You will figure that out as you practice.

Thank you Lisi, I appreciate your help! I actually have a couple of those and have never tried them. I guess I am going to get them out and practice. I tend to do things on the spur of the moment and use what I have right there around me. Now, I will place the spoon shaped holders where I can see them. Cheryl

I use metal measuring spoons, because like Lisi I prefer to roll the bead in the frit and I can maneuver a spoon easily with my right hand while twirling with my left to get even coverage.

I use a spoon as well, held over a little metal dish which holds the frit. So the spillage goes back into the dish.
