Question razor kit question

I purchased some of these wood turning razor kits to do lampwork on. Do I make my long beads on a mandrel or can I make it on this brassy colored tube? The tube is slightly larger than a pandora mandrel, so if I make it on mandrel I will need to find the next size up. I wonder if the hollow brassy tube will hold up to the flame.

Brass pops and explodes in the flame. I'd be more than cautious doing this. You'd want to have a bead release that completely protected the brass from the flame and even then I wouldn't do it.

Brass melts VERY easily that's why they use it for brazing/hard soldering.

So I need to do these on a mandrel first. Thanks! I don't have any brass tools, so I wasn't sure. Is there a size mandrel just a step up from the standard pandora? Sorry for all the idiotic questions.

Measure how thick the rod is. The same size mandrel dipped in bead release will work just fine. If you want to be safe, you could even double dip, but don't go overboard. You don't want the bead to be too loose on the finished piece.

It is bigger than my pandora mandrels but not big enough for the huge mandrels. I am going to have to find something that is 9/32.

Yep. Just make sure it is a thicker dip.

So nice! I wish they had some for the double edged blades. My sons are both using shaving soap and old razors now.

Thanks, they've got some very nice stuff. I'm not sure I'd know how to adapt it, but I might find some gift ideas there.
