Default Natural Gas Setup Help

Hi All!

I am trying to move my studio from it's current location in the garage to inside the house. I would like to run off the natural gas all ready coming into the house.

The first plumber I contacted laughed at me when I explained what was needed.

The second plumbing company quoted a price close to $10k. Just to run the pipe to the room in question. No increase in gas pressure or additional regulators. $10k just to run the line from the attic to the 2nd story room right below.

The third company says I have to have the btu requirements in writing from the torch manufacturer as well as exhaust specs from the same manufacturer before they can even think about giving me a quote. Even though I have shown them the exhaust setup, explained it in detail and gave them the current specs for it. They also can't do anything until I can prove to them that the room is sealed off from the rest of the house.

???

So before I waste anymore time with folks who look at me like I just gave birth to a four headed alien right in front of them, any tips?

If there is an existing thread with this information please point me to it. I have read everything I could find and thought I was fairly educated on the subject but apparently I am just a silly girl who happens to be hell bent on blowing my neighborhood sky high.

Also, if anyone reading this is tapped into the natural gas in their house and also happens to be in the Houston area, please let me know who you used.

Thank you!

10 k sounds like 9K too much. Depending on the run, etc the cost could be in the 500 to 800 dollar range depending on area and your specific needs.

What is obvious, is that these folks do not want to take the risk of installing something that they are not familiar with. One way to combat that prospective is to ask for a quote for a direct vent gas fireplace. However, make sure that the room has an exterior wall and is suitable for the fireplace. This will give you an idea of the price and should be way short of the 10K number. Unless, in your area, code requires gold piping!!!

Many locations require a permit from the city and a city inspection when the work is completed. It would be nice if a firm could stub in a line for future use. But that could be a long shot.
