Question Another flaming problem

Well crap. Haven't torched for a while. When I tried to light back up it gave dragon's breath when oxy was added.

Checked the regulator, it's fine; changed to another propane tank; hung the hose to see if it might need de-gunking, turned down the oxy flow. It worked for a little bit. Turned it off, left the oxy con to run. Went back to torch in just a bit, turned on the kiln while getting a few things together & it was up to about 500 by the time I tried to light the torch again *&&*%^$$&^%#%@$ Flames on fine, but when I try to add in the oxy it turns to dragon's breath

Help?!

dj

Sounds like your oxycon is kaput and only blowing air, not oxy. Or very low oxy. Might be time to have your sieve beds re-poured. Do you have access to another that you can try?

Aye, Makes me wonder how many hour it has on it?

Still I would think the various systems would set an alarm off before we found it going dragons breath. Ya' think?

The first thing I check when that happens with my concentrator is the compressor. The seals in the compressors usually go bad before the sieve beds do. I change the piston cup seals in my compressors about once a year.

Not sure what dragons breath is . None the less, No. These things are intended for medical use and therefore the operational limits and alarms may not have any relevance to supplying a torch. As shawnette said already it sounds like the oxycon is kaput.

Sigh. I was afraid that might be it. Basement studio a likely cause.

Going to have to give Dave a call & get walked through a check up. First time for everything.

thanks

Where are you located? It's not very expensive to have sieve beds repoured.
