Default super STRAIGHT super THIN...

...stringers on beads. OK, from the obvious "practice practice" answer, are there any techniques that can help this along? clear encased super thin stringer? colors that work better than others? Are these people laying pieces of stringer on the bead, then heating it in? arm resting suggestions? No caffeine?

just wondering....

Thin stringer melts outside the flame. If you actually put it IN the flame, you're out of the control zone.

Try this, take a thin stringer and see if you can melt and just make shapes with a candle flame. (Yes, this can be done.) So just play for a bit, see how much or how little heat (how close/far) is needed. Now on try it on a torch, like Brent said, it's outside the flame but now you can kinda see how far away from the torch you need to be.

Straight lines are pretty easy. If you have your base bead warmer than usual on the spot you want to put the stringer on, you can tack one end of the stringer and just lay it down across the bead. Chase it with the flame to make sure it melts in, or it will pop off. generally, working with super fine stringer is easier waaay back in the flame and off to the side a bit.
