So Cal Challenge Flame Day
So Cal Flame Surfers are having their second open Flame Date for Beads of Courage. Everyone is welcome! All the beads we make will go to help the kids in the BOC programs. Come for an hour or more if you can. We had a great time at the first Challenge and made lots of beads. We have good eats, prizes and lots of laughs.
Bring your safety glasses and your favorite tools. We welcome any glass you can bring or share.
When: July 10th
Time: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

We have some mandrels and will have them pre-dipped. We would love to have some more if anyone wants to donate some. We have all of our BOC Challenge supplies kept and used only for Beads of Courage. Beads of Courage has sent some logo items for prizes too. If you won a BOC tee shirt at the last Challenge or already have a BOC tee shirt, be sure to wear it!
We will take lots of pics and I will have someone with some computer skills post them.

Do you guys have any particular "theme" in mind? Meaning are you in need of anything specific such as Purple Hearts? I'm gonna try and make it to the session, but if I can't I'm definitely going to make a run of beads especially for BOC using my latest Muppets Murrini.

Dee, you need to shake things out and come and join us!! We will have such a fun time and will love to see you again. Thanks again for your demo at our mtg. Everyone said you did a great job. Prizes go along with a torching chair game that we do at the challenge.We do a special purple heart round with a purple prize! See you on Saturday, hopefully. Come on down and win.

Dee,
we will be happy to light your torch, or how about bringing your hot head if that makes you more comfortable? The torching area at Pacific Art Glass is roomy enough to expand our torch numbers. We could have an entire hot head crew!

You can make anything you want! and definitely, if you want to do all purple hearts, that would be wonderful! The SCFS club purchased some mandrels, but we can always use the extra.

So here's another question for y'all...
I'm figuring there will be kilns set up, right? Any idea what type, and will they have bead doors? I know - weird question! But..................I make some pretty cute "Smiley" style hearts, but they require me to make a small spacer "donut" which I garage while making the off-mandrel Heart. I then pull the spacer outta the kiln, attach it to the heart, then still the whole Magilla-Gorilla back in for annealling!

They sure come out cute and I'd love to do this style if possible. If not, though, I can bring my new "Hearts and Grooves" press I got from Mag at GoodGlassCo., which does both horizontal and vertical hole hearts - I'll just need to be ready with dipped smaller diameter mandrels. If possible, I'd like to do both. And I'm bringing Purple glass and some cute murrini!!!
If I have time, I'm going to pull some Purple Heart Murrini just to share with everyone!!!

Sounds wonderful De- I was going to bring some generic ones too for people to use. I think the kiln may not be big enough unless you're one of the ones 1st there. But they sound beautiful, have you ever posted any??
Sounds like we have a blast. We may have to ask John for another table for more room!

What a FANTASTIC challenge day we had! Thanks to everyone (18 total) who came out and helped make our day a success! And many thanks to John Williams of Pacific Art Glass (even though he doesn't read this) for hosting the challenge once again. I don't know how many beads we got made, but it is definitely more than last time! I will pick them up on monday and post a pic. What fun!
We'll do another in a few months, maybe Oct. We'll let you know!
