Default disc cutters

A friend of mine (non-lampworker...I know, shame on him lol) has a dic cutter he would like to move. I think the one he has is a Sanstrom (?) Its complete and in excellent condition. Before I make a decision on it I have a stupid question. I understand how to cut the disc but how is the center hole made if you want to use the metal for bead caps?

Thanks in advance

Duane

You would have to drill or punch the hole. If you look on any of the sites that sell supplies for working with metal, you will find different styles and sizes of hole punchers. Someone does make a tool that punches the center hole and domes the disc in one step. Can't remember who makes it. You will need a capping/doming tool to go with the disc cutter if you plan to make bead caps. And if the disc cutter is a Swanstrom - lucky you. It is a primo tool.

There is a size that comes with it you can use. That tool works great.

Swanstrom makes centering pegs for their disk cutters. They line up the center hole whe you cut the outer one. There are various hole punch pliers you can use to punch the center hole, depending on the size hole you need.

Yes, the Swanstrom is designed to give you perfectly centered holes, and it's easy peasy! I got one for my bday last year, and I LOVE it! Definitely the tool to buy if you are wanting to make your own disks, and especially bead caps!!!

Duane, I was just looking at these today online. There is a good video on Rio Grande's site that shows how to use it.

btw - if you're not interested in it, I may be. PM if you decide against it.
