Default Iris Blue

Well, now that I am in love with what Iris Blue can do, I am down to one lonely rod and have no idea where to buy more.

I believe I bought this originally from Arrow Springs but they don't sell glass anymore except for the Bella Donna. I don't see it on the Frantz or Howaco sites either. My rods are labeled with a handwritten tag that just says "IB" with no numbers.

Does anyone know of anyone that still sells it?

Thanks!

Hi Cheryl. I think I got mine about 10 years ago as a glass blowers 1 kilo (1/2 kilo?) rod. Think rolling pin size rod of glass. I break it up and pull it out as needed. However, Olympic Color Rod now carries the Reichenbach 104 in lampwork size canes in Iris Dense Blue.

ESC, I would be very afraid of something as large as that!

I have seen the Iris dense blue and I'm not sure it's the same stuff. Guess I'd have to see it in rod form to know for sure.

I've sent a note to Arrow Springs to see if they have any info.

I think this is what you want: http://www.glasscolor.com/products/d...D=112&pID=1234

It is 96 CoE. You can also buy it in cane, or rod and in frit in various sizes. http://www.glasscolor.com/products/d...cID=23&pID=295

Hi, I'd try here, at Olympic. They have both the 96 and 104

Kristin, Elizabeth,

The second bead in the picture (didn't see that on the site I looked at yesterday) appears to be similar to what I've been getting out of it. Hurray!

Thanks for your help!

Angie, I have been using it by itself and working it in a press or bead roller, once happy, I reduce it. It goes into the kiln black and comes out like these.

i love the unpredictable beauty and uniqueness of organics and this glass is a color combo that reminds me of peaceful waters.

After a bit of discussion, Olympic believes that I have a COE 96 product. Possible, I suppose, since I ordered it from the raku section at Arrow Springs and I really didn't think about it at the time, I just wanted some special glass that would do cool stuff.

It looks opaque, but kind of transparent when melted. If I look at the end of the rod, it's dark blue on the outside and kind of turquoise on the inside.

Has anyone used this? Can a transparent glass look opaque in rod form?

Your beads don't look transparent Cheryl, and I'd say they aren't 96 Coe Iris Blue.

Some rods like black look opaque but are transparent. Some opaques will pull into transparent stringers but they usually opacify when applied to a bead.

Many transparent/translucent rods go opaque when worked.

Your beads look to me like an odd lot of Double Helix Nyx that I have and love.

Do you have a photo of the rod or what's left of it?

It looks a lot like Kronos to me.

Default rods

it does look a lot like kronos but I can't imagine that Arrow Springs would have sold me some DH, but ya never know.

I actually have two very different rods banded together still. Since I am just starting to tag each rod, these have been together this way since purchase.

in the right light, they both have the same bright blue sort of transparent glow even though they look different to the naked eye.

thanks!

More glass to order and try out! I am beginning to understand why everyone has so many different colors in their stashes. I only have about 40!

I worked with Olympic and I ordered some Iris Dense Blue. Hopefully it's the same stuff. If not, I will try some of these suggestions.

Thanks for the help!
