glass beads on copper wire
I would like to make a bead on the end of a piece of copper wire. Then voila, add focal, loop the top, and instant pendant.
1. I have been working from a spool of 16 is gauge copper wire that I had on hand. I need to order more, and do not know the best source, and how it is described in catalogs? Fire Mountain has Anodized aluminum, Zebra Wire, and Wrap-It. Each one is described, but..., hmm?

2. I have several crack a lot after annealing. Maybe I need more flame annealing, but any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Loraine

try a smaller gauge
ramp down slower
I get bronze and copper wire from Rio Grande, and make head pins directly on the end of 20g wire

Copper can usually be found at your local hardware shop.
I use salvaged copper when I can or order it with the rest of my suppliers from theringlord.com
With postage costs I only order every few months.

Harbor freight has rolls of copper in the welding section cheep. Less than 10 bucks for a big roll. I have not used copper for headpins yet. Just stainless, but I got that at tractor supply. It was a little pricy (but not considering I saved on shipping) but I got 30ft to try at 5$ a roll or something. It was plenty to experiment on without breaking the bank, or having 300 ft I didn't use lol!

16ga is very thick to be using - thinner wire should give you less cracking. (I use 0.8mm copper for headpins, which is 20ga awg?)

The thickest I go is 18 gauge copper or nickel silver. Aluminum is too soft and will melt before the glass does and Zebra wire I believe is coated with some kind of plastic. Not sure about Wrap-1. Best to stick with copper, nickel silver or sterling silver.

I use Kanthal wire, 24 gauge, 0.5 mm. The main benefit is that I can hold it with my fingers while I work. It is what Czech lampworkers use for making glass flowers.
