Default My New Studio!

Well Its almost complete, I'm waiting for my kiln and supplies that are arriving tommorow!!! I'm pretty excited to get busy in the glass world. In this studio I will mix and match stained glass and lampworking. Got some pictures to share as well.

yes it is exiting, Unfortunaltely UPS got scared to deliver my freight down a sandy road and bailed on me so I cant get busy until tommorow night. I want to modify a few things about the shop, my exhaust hood comes out too far and I feel like I will smack my head on it or something. Other than that I'm pretty happy for now, and small things will come together gradually. I want a computer in the area, I have to work out the electrical details, I also want a light table for the stained glass work. (anyone know a lot about slumping and fusing?) anyways, I have to get over my dissapointment, the kiln came though so I guess I will familiarize myself with that today. thanks for the comments.
peace

Looks great! I see you have two squirrel cage fans mounted inside the hood with no ducting - how is that working? I don't see why it wouldn't work - my range hood has the same kind of setup underneath the grease vents and it sucks. Literally. I also do stained glass and and am envious of all your space!

BTW, your propane tank needs to be outside.....

thanks clarus,
yeah I noticed a lot of peepes put their propane outside, safety first ( i thought it was for efficiency or something) The fans pull a lot of air, I have not even seeled around the seams where they are mounted yet. They are rated for 495cfm a piece and I have a intake fan about 4-5 feet behind me. All my boro glass and tools arrived yesterday. I did a little work and made some pendants and stuff. Its a tedious and tricky little art though. I will keep posting pictures as things take more shape.

its a blast shield, they custom make them with the marver for many torches. It s a borosilicate glass that is the sheild I believe that filter IR and UV radiations. ABR sells them, thats where I got mine but I believe they sell factory direct although I can not find a page for it now. heres abr's listing for them: I know they also have different shields that have different properties.

what would cause that to happen though, a fire? Is it okay to put your regulator outside with the tank? I'll put it outside when I am working inside but I don't think I would leave it outside permanantly.

Lightgiver,

"Yes"...a fire, a spark, or static - coupled with a leak in your fuel line with no flash arrestor - will cause the ignition. So make sure your propane is outside, and a FLASH ARRESTOR is attached to the regulator. (You can also attach a second flash arrestor onto your torch/hose connection as an added safety precaution).

As for placing the propane with the regulator outside..."Sure, it's OK".

Just make sure of a few things:

1) If placed in a container, make sure it is open at the bottom so leaking propane will not accumulate therein.

2) Make sure it will not get dropped, run over, or have the regulator damaged or knocked off.

3) Try to keep it out of direct sunlight, if possible. If not, that's OK, as long as you don't live in the Gobi or Mojave' Desert.

4) Try to conceal it, or someone will swing by and get a "five finger discount" regulator.

In Christ: Raymond

My propane and regulator is out back with a garbage can over it. Helps keep the weather off it.
