I think they're very pretty and not far off what I am looking for. What type of glass is seashell swirl?

Its an odd lot vetro colour I think. You could pretty much use any opaque or translucent as a base. Some of the CIM colours have a lovely translucent quality if you are going for a lighter look, or use a darker base if that is waht you want. I would look at the opals you are trying to match and that should help you decide

Carolyn, I think you are on the right track, although the color is pale...
and hey, thanks for the shots of REAL opals, people... glass will never do *exactly* that, but we can try, right?
I don't think the photos I put up before really show what these colors can do.
Here is a bead I made with TAG 060908 Jelly Opal on Lauscha Super Nova... and I only struck it a couple times, after deeply heating the gather of Jelly Opal:
It seems to get more opaque with heating - then long-ish cooling - at least two or three times. I liked it on the Super Nova!
Here is another batch that I am prepping for release as Jelly Opal:
This is a different batch than the one above, 032808 Jelly Opal, and some dots of clear around the middle. This one has an amber/purple look that gains a blue flash, especially under an encasement.

Carolyn, those beads are stunning! I have been playing for over a year off and on to get opal effects. Your foil gives great dispersion of light.
I think yours are the closest I've seen in glass. And the color is great, not too light, as opals come with all different colored body colors!

....and one more I shot today. For some reason the way the color breaks up on the surface of this glass makes me think of opals. Maybe I'm the only one, lol!
