Smile PGC-Tech Apprentice Program

PITTSBURGH GLASS CENTER ACCEPTING TECH APPRENTICESHIP APPLICATIONS

PITTSBURGH, PA September 12, 2012 Pittsburgh Glass Center (PGC) is now accepting applications for its Tech Apprenticeship program that begins in January 2013. The deadline to apply is October 25, 2012.

The Tech Apprenticeship is an educational work opportunity designed for students who have completed their undergraduate study in glass and are looking to gain professional studio experience in a state-of-the-art public access studio. The apprenticeships last between six months and one year. Apprentices will work 30 hours/week as a studio tech and have 10 hours/week to focus on making their own work. PGC will also provide housing and a stipend of $400 a month.

Tech apprentices complete the program with the basic knowledge necessary to run and/or work in any glass studio. The apprenticeship trains individuals in proper operation and maintenance of equipment in all studios, as well as providing real world experience in day-to-day operation of a facility that caters to glassworkers of all skill levels. Apprentices will be working in the public eye, and therefore applicants are expected to be enthusiastic about engaging visitors. Applicants should have a strong work ethic and are expected to be self-motivated.

To apply, submit the following by October 25, 2012:
Up to 15 digital images (organized in either Power Point or Keynote presentation and on disk)
Image description sheet
Resume
Artist statement
Three references (no letters)

Send applications to Jason Forck, Pittsburgh Glass Center, 5472 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206. Contact Jason Forck via email at Jason@pittsburghglasscenter.org or at 412-365-2145 ext. 203 with questions.
