gas mist from HH
I have had a problem with getting a gas mist coming from my HH. I am on bulk MAPP and this has been happening ever since I have connected it.
It comes out in little puffs, and at some point in the pause I can light it. Then I have the fire breathing dragons breath and it will burn off after a while. However I am getting sooty beads from this even after the flame is steady.
I do burn off my gas after turning off the tank. I also leave the torch on until not just the flame is gone, but the hiss also.
Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Chelle,
Have you tried draining your hose? Is the tank newly filled? There are so many different things that can be the problem but those are the first 2 I can think of. Then the third would be cleaning the torch itself.
Good luck!
Charlene

Thanks Charlene. The tank is well, I've had it since Sept or Oct, and it been sitting as I haven't been able to torch. But I had problems when I first got it too. I've probably spent 5 hours on this tank. That's with a new hose, so maybe it is gunk in the line.
I'll see if my dad can help me drain the hose. It is too tight for me to disconnect.
It's a pretty new torch also. Only about 15 hours use on it.

Hey Chelle, how'd you go? Did it resolve itself? Did Dad fix it?
My first thought was dirty gas - just in case nothing else worked...
Cheers!

Nope, it isn't fixed. It's not the hose or the torch, so it has to be the gas. So I'm back on the 1lb cannisters until after the Gathering when I should be able to get the tank purged and refilled.
Thanks for asking.

Knowing the design construction of a propane tank (MAPP) and the way fuel is drawn off the top of the tank as a vapor and not off bottom of tank as a liquid, I fail to see how you are getting a mist of gas out of your torch, unless you are turning torch on way to much when trying to light it... The only possible thing is that you have a problem of either the vapor recondensing in your hose, or there is a condensation problem with odorant. If you have had a problem with this tank of fuel all along, I suspect there is something wrong with fuel mixture in tank.... Only possible problem may be to much odorant (oil) in mix... Ask supplier of tank/fuel if you can exchange it for a different one and see if that makes a difference.

Is this tank in the hot sun?? If so, the Mapp in a nearly full tank can expand in a hot tank and cause liquid fuel spitting and sputtering instead of a nice flow of vapor. This can also happen with an overfull tank. With only 5 hours on an overfull tank, it is a likely culprit.
Get that tank in the shade, drain hose and ask your fuel man not to fill the tank so full. I had this problem ALOT when I used Mapp and always in the hot summer months. Never a problem in winter.

Thanks Melinda.
I figure that is the culprit, the heat. So my dad is going to build a little brick shelter for it, but until then I am on the 1 lb cannisters again.
