Pink?? There's no stinkin' pink!
So I'm making blue camouflage beads kind of like this. I'm using Lauscha steel blue, Effetre pale grey, black and some sort of light blue, probably Effetre as well. First several come out fine (at least colour-wise) and then the most recent one comes out of the kiln with one very small area in pink! Wha?

Do you have a smidge of reduction in your flame?

Hmm. Maybe. Do you think one of those might be likely to reduce?

Blues are made with copper and may reduce to shades of red.

Good to know. It's only one small area, which I thought was odd.
Eileen - you know me and pics. When they come, they will come in spades! I batch process my pics I decided not to melt tonight and just do stuff on dry land. Labelled a ton of glass rods but that was as far as I got. I will get a pic of it, though.

Here it is...varying degrees of success on the beads. And pink-of-unknown-origins.

Those are petty cool, and I'd say that is the (light turqoise?) reducing.

I think it's your light blue. Try an oxy rich flame and work high. Do not sink! That pink looks like the copper color you get from reduction.

Thanks Eileen and Suzy. I will try an oxy rich flame next time.
Suzy, what do you mean by "do not sink"?

Yeah, what does do not sink mean?
I agree...that is reduction of the light blue.

Could it also be super thinned-out black?
And was "sink" supposed to be "strike"?

Yup, that's reduced copper from the light blue.

Thanks guys. Will definitely make sure the next round does not have a reducing flame.

I love those beads!
You can try getting rid of the reduction with a silver polishing cloth. I found that worked well when I had purples getting all shiny and brown on me, rubbed them with a polishing cloth with silver polish on it and it was gone. I haven't tried it for your kind of reduction but it might be worth a shot.

Thanks Fishbulb. I think the look has potential but I'd chalk these up to trial beads anyway so not worried about saving that one. I'll keep it in mind of I get any more stinkin' pink!

That works with a metallic surface but when the copper reduces it goes deeper into the glass rather than being a surface phenomenon. the only way to make it go away is get it hot again and run it through a very highly oxygenated flame. That usually gets most of it but sometimes a bit can be stubborn.
