Default Cleaning glass in dishwasher?

Hi ya'all... I've heard that you can clean glass in the dishwasher but how are the glass rods placed in the dishwasher, without them breaking?

Are they just laid out on the top rack and wash~away?
or
Do you have to put them in a strainer or say: the little wholey bag ya put your delicates in the washing machine?....... any and all advise would be truly most helpful. thanks in advance!! :0) Sandy

If it was me, I would not put them in a bag, because I would fear the cloth would retain soap and make the rods scummy. I dont see how any harm would come to them just laying on the top shelf. i have never washed rods in a dishwasher, but there is another issue that seems like it might come into play. if your rods are too short/light, some dishwashers could blast them so hard that they could potentially fall down through the bottom rack, being broken by the spray arm, also harming your d/w pump. just my thoughts, if anyone knows different, please do tell.

I lay mine across the top shelf and it works great.

thanks for the input!! I figured the dishwasher would allow me to use the hottest water possible while giving the glass a thorough bath! Keeping my fingers crossed!

I've laid rods in 2 layers on each rack. The first layer lays front to back in the grooves. The second layer is laid side to side with just a few in each position. The bottom layer prevents the top layer from falling through. I do the same thing on the bottom rack. Then I wash them on the crystal setting without the heat/dry cycle. Open the door when done and roll the rods on a towel to dry. Works great.

Do you use DW soap? If so, I'm assuming just a little...
