Default Quick Kiln Question

Why would one want a fiber top on the inside of a kiln vs. the regular top that Paragon puts on? Buying a new kiln and want to make sure I get the right setup. http://www.clay-king.com/kilns/parag...fusion_16.html

Fiber kilns weigh a lot less. Someone might want one for portability, I suppose. If that's not an issue, I'd go with brick. They hold heat far better.

I've got a chilipepper which is fiber all around. I really enjoy it because sometimes I need to travel with my set-up and I make almost exclusively marbles, marbles don't roll on fiber!

Brick cracks eventually and sprinkles dust, chips onto your pieces. Seems to be worse with top loaders. I have a GL18 with fibre top and Ovation with brick, fibre wins hand down ...

I've had a brick kiln for years, dad has used a brick kiln for about as long as I've been alive. My sister and my mom both had or have brick kilns. I've never had dust or chips from bricks fall into my glass work. I've never known anyone tho complain about debris falling into their glass work. Cracked bricks can be repaired or replaced. I've also used fiber blankets to cool hot glass when working away from home. No problems with fiber blankets either... YMMV
