I've been using Foster Fire, am very happy with it. (I bought the Smooth & Tuff, haven't tried the other one)
And I didn't open the thread at first because I wasn't sure what "Head" release meant

Kragg Mud is the best for transparents. Cleans out easily & completely.

What ever you use, I found out that a wetted finger is good for smoothing out the surface of dried bead release to get a better interior surface for clears and transparents.

LOL!
I like to smooth out the blue sludge I'm using on the mandrels too. It's as thick as molasses. Should I just thin it out with water, please?

Yes, if it's too thick, thin it with water. Some say use distilled but I've never had a problem with tap. (I use Sludge)

I've used Zippz! for years and I adore it. So easy to clean out and it comes so clean, you wouldn't believe it! Almost never have anything to clean out. Just soak a bit and slide the bead up and down the mandrel a few times, and it's totally clear–not even really frosted.

I am using the blue Sludge from Arrow Springs, I think others carry it too. Lovely stuff, really cuts down on the cracking. I mix it in with Alice's bead release. You buy Alice's dry, by the pound and it is great value. Stretches the expensive stuff and cleans easily. She has her own page for that:

and this stuff - the new Dip-n-Go Sludge Ultra

I love Fusion! No stuck beads and rarely any cracking on the mandrel. Easiest to clean ever. Like Annie said, soak a little, wipe excess off with fingers, slide the bead up and down the mandrel and it's mostly clean at that point. I never have to scrub my mandrels either.

Robin Foster's is really good. I also use and love Alice's. Be sure to mix any bead release really well before dipping mandrels. When first starting, I used Blue Sludge, but had trouble getting the beads off the mandrels -- probably from inexperience. I haven't used any for years, but still have a couple of dried up bottles around somewhere.

When different bottles are getting low, I will mix them together, and have never had a problem. One experiment particularly was really great, and I wish I could figure out what the mixture/ratio was!

Use an old blender to blend your release super smooth (any brand) and it will clean out much easier and more completely. Also, throw some fuglies in your dip bottle to help with mixing when you shake it up.

(Sludge mixed with Alice's is awesome.)

Default Boro beads

While we're talking about bead release, does anyone have an opinion on what product has the best grip while working with boro? I am making big hole beads, where lot of surface area is put under tension between the release and the glass while I work (twisting and smoothing the beads). I often loose the grip, occasionally loosing a bead. What release might work best for me? I have tried a number of things, Kragg mud is on my shelf right now and it isn't hanging on to my mandrels (tubes actually) very well.
Many thanks
