NORIKAZU KOGURE CLASS IN AUGUST: interested? RSVP asap, please!
Norikazu Kogure will be in the Bay Area for the ISGB Gathering in August, and he's interested in teaching classes pre-conference. These would be his first classes in America.
Gure's internationally famous, and has even done a lampworking competition on Japanese TV - we're lucky to have this opportunity.
Gure is featured in The Masters: Glass Beads, newly published. He demo'd core formed vessels at the Glass Art Society (GAS) conferences in 1998 and 2005, and was a featured presenter at the ISGB Gathring in 2001 - remember the guy who started his presentation by making popcorn on a volcano torch?
The classes will be held at Aanraku Glass Studios in San Mateo, CA - south of the SF Airport.
They will cover Japanese Decorative Techniques, and are Intermediate level. He'll have a Japanese Translator.
You can see some of the techniques Gure will be teaching in his book, 'Tonbo-Dama Japanese Glass Beads' - book & video available from ArtcoInc and other suppliers. There's a picture of his work down below (scanned from the book, sorry for the quality!)
The cost is $500 for two days, and volcano torches & glass will be supplied as part of the class cost.
The first class is Saturday/Sunday August 2-3. If there's interest we'll open a Monday/Tuesday August 4-5 class. These classes are pre-conference.
