Bad color combo or bad schedule??
I woke up to a sad surprise, I made a bunch of beads yesterday and this morning a particular set has a bunch of problems. In the photos you can see two are stuck together, one a shard went flying off and landed on the other, tiny chips (not cracks) general pitting.
The other beads were just fine. So do I have a bad color combo? Maybe my new schedule is not adequate for this glass? Any help is really, really appreciated!!
Glass Used:
Moretti White Base, Val Cox Prince of Tides frit, large Moretti Clear dots on frit.
Swirled, pulled, and formed into cubes.
Kiln Schedule:
Garage at 890 and hold for 8 hours
Ramp up to 920 in 15 minutes and hold for 1.5 hours
Ramp down to 800 for over 2 hours
Hold for 15 minutes and off.
PS Is the a way to "unstick beads" ?
Thanks!

It must be the frit. I'm guessing it's not a 104 frit (it's so long since I used any frit in my beads!) It didn't like being encased with the clear. Try it in smaller amounts on the surface without the clear. Even if you unstick those beads they will not be usable, they will have flaws where they were stuck together.

Thank you Carolyn.
I went to Val's site and she does mention this frit is 96 COE, and to use only 5%. Bet that means a teeny, tiny bit, huh? Maybe I went a little heavy on the frit.
The beads didn't stick due to too much frit, right? Am I sticking them in the kiln too hot? Should I wait for the glow to go away, like the under the desk test before I put them in? I always worry I'm not putting them in fast enough.

That pitting looks more like an issue with the clear to me. It looks like it has boiled a bit.
I encase the 96 coe frits all the time with 104. Of course, I make big beads, so there's automatially less frit per bead, since it's so intense and the color goes so far.
If you touch your newly finished bead to another in the kiln, it will likely stick whether you've used frit or not. I just have a small kiln rack in my kiln (maybe 4" wide). I put my first bead on the right side of it, then when I finish my second bead, I place it on the left side, and move the first bead off to the far right onto the fiber blanket on the bottom of my kiln. Next bead goes on the right, and the left one is moved off to the far left. That way, I only have on bead on the rack at the time, and the others can touch as they've been in there long enough to cool beyond being tacky.

OH... I don't have a fiber blanket in my kiln! Nor do I have a bead rack... oh dear...
My kiln is not quite a bead kiln, just a kiln with a bead door. Seems like if I put a blanket in there it would block the door hole pretty much. Maybe I should try to stick the blanket in there anyway.
I have the blanket I used pre-kiln days, it's pretty long and thick. Should I just cut it down to fit on the floor of the kiln or even just a small section leaving another area for a rack?
Thank you so much!

I used to garage at 970 but was suggested to garage lower for the silver colors?

Yes, if you are using silver colours you should garage lower. I garage at either 940 or 950 depending on which silver colours I'm using. In those beads you weren't using silver colours so you could program your controller to garage at 960 or 970.
I have 4 different annealing cycles programmed into my kiln.

You don't really need a blanket on the floor of your kiln. I just like having that cushion to lay them on. If you don't use a blanket, then be sure to coat the floor of the kiln with a kiln wash in case there's ever a malfunction and you have a meltdown.

A kiln rack to keep them separate while cooling to kiln temp. Frits, from my experience, most beads will stick to each other if they touch. I use pieces of fiber blanket (cut in 2" x 3" rectangles, separated into 1/4" thick pieces) to separate layers of beads as I stack them up on the side once they can come off the cooling rack. I do my best to unsure that my beads never touch, if they have frit on them. If they are all Moretti, I don't worry about it.

Thank you, Toni, Lisi and Carolyn.
I should go figure out a way to get a fiber blanket and a kiln rack in there, seems like the best thing to do. Oh... so frit can make them stick? Good to know!!
I don't even have kiln wash on the bottom of my kiln... now that I think about it, that could be a really bad problem.
