That's nice Alpha. Is it a pendant?

After watching this thread for a year I finally got my studio up and running.
I need some help with my caps it seems like I am getting air trapped under the edge of the cap. Any tips on how to avoid this.

Thanks.

Well, I would say you are rushing the step where you melt the glass down on the cap. And you likely don't have the cap itself hot enough to make this step flow.
Try this:
When your jelly is all done, tentacles done, cap on, and you are
ready to put your top clear glass on it, heat the cap up just a bit,
not enough to make it soft, just hot. Heat your glass for the top,
but keep the cap part hot, don't forget it. I like to make a big gather
of clear for the top and slightly maria it , heat the center and then
join but don't try to get the glass all the way down on the cap.
burn off your clear for the top, and then heat from below, aiming
your flame up under the edge of the clear, turning all the while.
I love to use my butter knife (graphite tool) at this stage to
push the glass down little by little as I continue to heat and turn it.
I have used a metal tool to do this, if you have something brass
that would work ok, but beware metal marks, that's why I love
the butter knife I got from Blastshield. Give this a try and report back.
Your jellyfish is lovely, love the dotted cap.
Here's a recent one from me.

Default Tentacle Cane

This is one I made a long time ago =--I stripe a 7mm clear rod with either glow in the dark glass or an amber purple type glass cover in clear and pull out into a stringer about 5 to 7 mm. Cut it flat at the top of the tentacle cane. Top with a murrini ( the red) and then add the mantle which is another color. Push up into your gather, melt off and round off again. Punty up to the bottom and make your loop. Polish off the punty mark.

Have a quick question for jelly makers - I notice some of you back your pendant with color. Do you slightly flatten where you're going to add color? Or something else?

I've been flattening the backs on all of mine (colour or no) because I find it a bit more comfortable to wear if they can't roll from side to side.

I don't know if this has been said already, but the way I do it in soft glass (haven't tried it yet in boro) it to make a tentical cane, a vine cane, but with clear in the center, and put the cap on the tip of your tentical cane, let that sit as you warm up a nice sized glob of clear. After you have a good sized glob you can super heat the bottom third, and then push your tentical cane in as far as you can, and the molten glass will heat the tentical cane enough for it to mushroom into the cap when it hits the solid glass. Then you can melt of the tentical cane and finish the pendant.

Hey Tom! Let's put the damn thread back where it was! maybe then someone will see it. This thread and most of my other threads died when they were moved up here to the "Free Boro Tutorials" section. It just went "poof". I know the mods had good intentions, but certainly not good results with that change. I do still make Jellyfish from time to time.

I usually try to look at which part of the jelly looks best then flatten one side where I want to put my backing. I then use full rods of backing color and heat and stripe the color on trying hard not to catch any air bubbles between the stripes or leave any gaps between.
I've also used frit to back them, heating then doing frit pick up method, melt it in, heat and pick up more frit till satisfied that it is all covered. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for this thread. I just started working with glass in the fall and Boro just recently so it is really helpful. Here is my first implosion Boro jelly. Mostly English ivy with ghost dots and couple short tentacles.
I used Libby's technique to get the flare but need more practice adding glass without getting lots of bubbles and distorting the shape.
