Since I'd never head of these, I googled. Interesting idea. Has anyone tried it? One page said it was fine pearlite.

Then I googled it with Australia; the most useful thing I found was a reference to "Natalie Song at beaded flower garden Boronia Vic." from this page http://www.glassbeadmakers.net/forum...php?f=7&t=5521

I don't know about the annealing bubbles but you can get vermiculite at bunnings or any garden centre.

Steiconi, I used to use them when I lived in the States. I liked them there for occasions when it was too hot to torch (I lived in Arizona!) with the kiln running, but I failed to bring them when we moved Ive never used vermiculite. I assume I use it just like I did the annealing bubbles? Stick them in the vermiculite then when you are ready anneal them in the kiln? I did see the info about Natalie Song but could not find her website. Thanks Kathy L.

Hi, I bought a big bag of vermiculite in bunnings in Sydney. Its in the gardening section. Probably most garden supply stores will have it as well.

But if you're used to the bubbles, the dust will be something new to get used to
One learns to live with it..

hi - annealing bubbles are made from silica. I ordered mine from Heritage Glass and their website says they do ship international.

I keep the bubbles in a crock pot and set it to low when I start.
This is great for keeping the beads warm and slow to cool down.
I batch anneal so I love my bubbles - no dust!!!!

Please please understand that these are nowhere near to real annealing. They will slow bead cooling somewhat, for later batch annealing, but they truly don't anneal beads in any way similar to actual kiln annealing.

(I learned the hard way that if you make beads over about 3/8" diameter, they need true kiln annealing to survive. )

I understand that desertDreamer thank you for posting. I only want them (or used them) for later batch annealing. I do love my kiln (Glass Hive of course )
