striking and reducing?
This may be a duh question but...
Can you mix striking glass and reduction glass together in a bead or twistie? Or will it just turn out to be poop?

Sure, it can be done. I would recommend using a reduction glass that reduces easily. Work the bead as you would for the striking glass and at the very end hit the parts of the bead that contain the reduction glass with a reduction flame.
There are some striking glasses that can also be slightly reduced at the end to add extra shine, DH's T265 is a great example.

Cool. I have been think of some really cool color combos using both types of glasses.

I have had mixed results with this. If you use a striking silver glass that needs a lot of heat to develop colours it sometimes wrecks the look of the reduction glass. Conversely if you use, say, raku with a silver glass, you have to be really careful with the amount of reduction you use at the end or the raku reduces and you can't see the colour well. It is a question of experimenting, and I'd love to see your results!

Personally, I wouldn't mix them in a twistie. You could however do a bead and add your reduction glass first, reduce, encase, then add your striking color.

I do it all the time - it does help when it's done on large beads for the shaping of the bead itself usually strikes the striking silver glass so you only have to reduce it at the end.

Thanks Hayley, I was hoping the silver queen would give me some advise.

Green Dalai is an opaque striker that can get a slight metallic sheen when reduced. But it does like to be heated up pretty hot in the beginning for the best striking colors.
