Best place for 3/16 mandrels?
I'm looking for some 3/16 mandrels. Length doesn't really matter. My two usual suppliers (Mountain Glass and ABR) don't have them. Well, ABR has the hollow ones, but I don't need those.
Any suggestions as to where to get them? Thanks.

Buy 3/16 stainless rod from your local steel supplier and make up your own. At $4.48 per 12 foot length mandrels can be made for 37 cents each.

Nobody locally has them. The welding place where I get my oxygen can order them, but I have to order like 100 of them. I can get them from Speedy Metals but I didn't want to go through the hassle of cutting them since I'll probably only use them once or twice.

I was not happy with speedy metals. Each rod had to be deburred and half of them were either bent or curved so badly i had to either recut them or toss them.

I just wanted a couple to play with and was able to pick them up at a hobby shop that has stuff for model trains. I think they were $2.75 each. They are about 2 years old and have not rusted although I have no idea what they are other than steel.

Just wanted to say that you can order them cut to length from Speedy Metals. I don't know about other people's experiences but I did buy a ton from them once and although they did need to be deburred and cleaned the price was good and they were cut to length.
Sara's prices in the garage sale are super great and I got a bunch from her before. They're awesome! So if you only need a few I'd get them from her

You should be able to get them from any welding supply shop. Ask for stainless steel TIG rod. They typically stock a fairly wide range of diameters. I usually get 308 stainless but the alloy type is not too important. It usually comes in 36 to 48 inch lengths and can be cut with heavy wirecutters or small bolt cutters. Some people grind down the cut ends to smooth after cutting them but I have not needed to. It's been a while since I have purchansed any but I think the price was about $10 to $15 a pound (lots of rods).

His mandrels are awesome ... great prices ... quick shipping ... and I even got a little extra!!!
If he has them in stock, he is the way to go!!!
If you want less than a dozen. Jamey Lynn has them listed at HOWACO for $1.25 each for 9" and $1.50 each for 12". She's closed until Sunday though.

I get mine from Bead Box Man too and they are awesome. He also ships FAST too which is really important to me. He doesn't take forever and his customer service is AWESOME! He also answers every PM without delay and can cut them to whatever size you need.
