Default No burn Fingers Short Rod Holder

Hi everyone, this is Glenn. Sorry I haven't been over here for a while. I haven't made any of No burn Fingers Short rod holder for a quite awhile. Anyway I have learned that there is new lamp workers out there, and I don't think some have ever seen the rod holder Me and my girlfriend used to make, so I decided now might be a good time to bring them back. I do miss making tools sometimes. Any ways I made 10 and reopened my shop on Etsy so if there is anyone out there might need a new one or possibly a new lamp worker looking for a way to get rid of those shorts and keep those fingers safe from the heat come on by and take a look. thanks everyone, Glenn

Here is the link to Etsy where they are.

I bought one. I have a lot of shorts and I don't like fusing rods (it turns in to one of those "next time" things). This spring/summer, I'm forcing myself to start burning through them.

I just want to add that I got mine and used it today and it is great. The short and the handle line up perfectly and using this is so much faster (therefore cheaper hello...) than taking the time to fuse shorts in the flame.

This is the first short holder I've ever bought and feel lucky I got one that works perfectly! THANK YOU! I'm a real customer, not a paid actor lol...

Default Shorts

I don't get this. It's not rocket science. Why spend the $$$ on a short rod holder.
You know what works really well!!?? Melt the short onto the next rod!! That way you can use it ALL!! And if you dont like the transition at the termination of the short, just tweeze off that little bit. Prob solved

Many times I want to melt that glass right then to continue my bead. I prefer to just grab it with my holder to getting up to grab another rod from the cabinet. If I have shorts on the table I do many times weld them before using.
I think we each do what works best for us.

I'm on tanked oxygen and anything I can do that results in less use of oxy is a plus. It's why I only use rods preheated in the kiln. I hate wafting in the flame knowing I'm using up oxy for something that could be avoided. The time I spend connecting two rods and waiting for the glass to stiffen to get the most level weld possible also brings me all the closer to an oxy refill. For my set up and working habits, this tool is wonderful.

A lot of times Lampworking rods where new rods have been cut have micro fractures in the glass resulting in scum (Micro bubbles). I used to fuse a lot of my shorts together, but have noticed over the years that when you come to the connection it fall off a lot of the time due to thermal shock because of the scum on the ends from being nipped or worse yet explodes with shards of glass sometimes getting on myself. By using one of my rod holders you are actually increasing your safety, and better yet not introducing scum into your customers beads.
