BOROSILICATE ORNAMENTS AND BASIC HOLLOW FORMS
Sabina Boehm $150 + $15 material fee (non-refundable)
October 24, Sun (10am- 5pm)
In this one-day class students will experiment with and learn the fundamentals of working hollow glass. We will start with a basic Venetian design and possibly advanced to some switched axis techniques on colored tubing. We will spend some time creating really fun hollow fish and icicles and snowflakes will be made out of rod, time permitting. Students can expect to make progress in the areas of blowing out balls of glass and applying dots and other adornments.
Students will be encouraged to work at their own levels, but basic intermediate knowledge of flameworking is a prerequisite for this classes.

SABINA BOEHM ’s talent has always drawn her to the arts. In Seattle in 1994, as the Borosilicate art glass movement gained momentum, she fell into an apprenticeship. She spent those first few years trying to gain knowledge wherever she could, via classes and networking, then starting a cooperative glass studio in the late 1990’s. Later she worked for Momka’s Glass Company, testing color for the glass chemist, which gave her an insightful knowledge of glass. This medium has great feminine appeal to her, and the meditative creation process has kept her blowing for the past 14 years. Winning the very prestigious Eugene Glass School FlameOff in 2005 and 2006, in the Marble category, has definitely given her the encouragement she’s needed to continue to pursue her love for the art. Recently she has broadened her horizons to include figurative and sculptural work. She’s spent a great deal of time as of late teaching and doing live demonstrations at venues such as the Glass Museum in Tacoma. You can find her work published in various magazines and all over the web.
