Default Need new web host

I know this has been discussed before but I am looking for a new web host and want some input. I am currently using Start Logic and can't even begin to tell you how bad I HATE them. If there is anything the can't screw up I haven't found it.

What are you using and why do you love it is what I would be interested in hearing.

Thanks, Carol

I use Lunarpages, $4.95 a month. It uses cPanel and I find it easy to update things with cPanel. Free domain for the life of the account, registered in your name.

There are tons of hosting companies out there. I think cPanel is important. I maintain a site for a buddy that uses GoDaddy. Too many layers to fight to the maintenance section.

Hannah, I'm so glad it isn't just me. It seems like everytime they make a change to anything, the customer only finds out when things don't work anymore.

Remember when they changed servers last year? They put a VIRUS on my website... as well as my brother's - anytime someone tried to open our sites, they would get a warning. And, then, they refused to own up to it being their problem.

As I said in a previous post, I use awardspace.com (free). You have to do your own html though. I had some problems getting going, but they have a help forum too. The only downside I can see is that it's in Germany and when web traffic is heavy it may have a bit of lag when editing, but most of the time (I would say more than 99%) I don't have problems with it. They charge about $20/year for the domain registration.

Going through the same thing with 1and1.com right now. Viruses and keyloggers being put on my site. When I contact them, they tell me that it must be something that I'm uploading, even though my FTP logs show someone from Russia accessing my site. And, I know 5 other people who have hosting through them who are experiencing the exact same problem. Same line of code and same web site link being installed onto their sever.

In the process of switching servers right now, but it's such a pain do to that. Backing up all the databases, reinstalling the shopping cart, blog, and newsletter software, etc. If 1and1 would have just admitted that it was a mistake on their end then maybe we could figure out a solution.

Not sure who I'm switching to yet. Got a list of about 20 providers that I got from Web Designer magazine so I'm comparing rates and services.

I'll be sure to post who I end up going with if anyone is interested...

I'm sorry to hear that about 1and1 Cosmo, I was seriously considering them, but I don't wanna have to battle my way through problems with a hosting company.

This is who I'm going with:

http://inmotionhosting.com/

The thing that made the decision for me is that I called them and on the second ring a real person answered who spoke English. Now, I'm not saying anything bad about non-English speakers or anything, but I speak English and if I call someone about a technical issue, it's important that we both understand each other. With most companies outsourcing their tech support to other countries, I always wonder if the person I'm talking to really understands what I'm asking them. Most of the time I don't think they do...

That definitely is a good thing.

I didn't know when I signed on with awardspace that they are in Germany, I just looked through a long list of free web hosting places and decided to go with that one. If I ever have to call them I shouldn't have too much of a problem because I'm still rather fluent in German, I was born and grew up about 50 miles or so from where they are located - my brother lives near there (Kiel).

GoDaddy has great support; you can talk to a real person and they don't care how little you know!

Talking

I just built a web site for my Sister through GoDaddy and their program "WebSite Tonight". It's a Template based program so I had to do a lot of html and css tweeking to get it to look the way I wanted.

Unfortunately, they don't have a Toll-Free number so technical support could cost a lot in phone charges. I did all my tech stuff through email, which is time consuming. But they were fairly quick about answering my questions. I don't know how they would be as just a Host, but probably just as good......Valerie

Dumped Pappashop for Inmotion Hosting and have been very happy with them. If you consider them be sure and google for a coupon or ask one of the live people you get
