2013 Northwest Beadmakers’ Retreat at Pilchuck Glass School
If you’ve ever wanted a little taste of the Pilchuck Glass School experience, slots are still available for the upcoming 2013 Northwest Beadmakers’ Retreat!
From the Pilchuck.com website:
Our rural 54-acre campus is nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Range about fifty miles north of Seattle. It’s a serene and natural retreat where artists can disconnect from everyday life and immerse themselves in a supportive environment where they can learn, experiment, collaborate, focus, and dream.
A few notes from my own experience at last year’s retreat:
· Pilchuck is a truly beautiful, rustic place to “get away” and focus on expanding your lampworking and jewelry making repertoire.
· Attendance is limited to 36 people, so there is a good opportunity to connect with other lampworkers.
· Everyone eats meals together in the lodge, and the food is delicious and plentiful.
· The retreat occurs before the regular Pilchuck classes begin, so the campus is very peaceful and we don’t have to share torches with others outside our group.
· If you can tear yourself away from the torches, you can take some fun hikes around the campus. Part of the fun is finding art hidden among tree roots or in other unusual places.

The dormitory is located less than a five-minute walk up the hill. (we will be allowed to have one or two cars for those with special mobility needs to have access to drive between housing and activities.
* Cottage Housing – There are two cottage dorms on campus with three attached cottages. Each cottage consists of two rooms (double-occupancy) separated by a bathroom which is shared by the four residents. With greater privacy and closer proximity to studios, cottage rooms are recommended for older participants and carry an additional fee.
Activities:
We will have 12 torches (mini CC's, I believe) set up for our use at Pilchuck. Some people will be working on the projects that they learned in the mini classes and others will be on the torches during the open torch time. We will be able to stay up as late into the night as we want. Some people will stay up late and others will turn in at a reasonable time.
