Fish hooks in glass anyone?
My husband went and bought half a dozen packets of fish hooks, and wanted me to see if I could put one in glass. I put it in, but I'm wondering if the bead is really stable with it in there.
I tried winding glass around the barb on a different hook (different package) and it didn't really want to stick, even though I had it red hot, so I'm not sure what metal they used to make the hook.
Has anyone done this? Any tips to share? You can see the bubbles it was making, so I'm thinking there may have been some brass in the metal. DH says they are probably made from old cars

I don't have any advice, but I do know that salt-water hooks are made from stainless steel and they might be more stable.

Thank you, that's good to know!
I need to go read the packages. He was just going by size I think, but I will go read the packages.

I think he would rather I put it on an opaque base so it would show better, so I'm going to do another one like that I guess. I was also thinking about doing a fish with the hook inside.

I've often wondered about making flies in glass.

Do flies sit on the water, or go down into the water?

It would have been easy enough to do, I just wanted to be sure it would survive before I took the time & trouble to mess with the fins & such.

Someone did make cute flies with a glass fish and attached a real hook and whatever
else is supposed to be attached. I bought one for my SIL a few years ago and then lost the name of who did it. He Loves it and shows off with it to fish friends.

Depends on how they're tied. I don't think any go real deep, most of the ones I tied were made to sit on top of the water.

I was thinking maybe glass would be too heavy to float, but sinking would work

I've made fish beads on giant salt water hooks and they're very popular. Especially when I hang them from 'fishing rods'.

Unless you examine it with a polariscope you cant know. Steel of any kind is not compatible with any glass I am aware of so assume it is loaded with stress and be very careful with it.
