Default Photography & Photoshop Classes for Artists & Craftspeople in 2018 Multiple Locations

Does your camera speak a foreign language you don’t understand? Do you struggle with how to light and photograph your art to showcase its beauty and craftsmanship? In these classes you will learn the secrets of how to shoot your glass, jewelry, beads, and crafts with the Official Photographer for the 2017 & 18 Glass Vegas Show. Leave these classes feeling empowered to create photos as beautiful as the art you are photographing.

Photography Classes
Come learn the secrets of how to shoot your art glass, functional glass, jewelry, beads, metal clay, and wood with a professional photographer and glass artist. See what aspects make for a high quality photograph. Learn the language of studio photography, the 9 parameters of successful photos and how to produce them. We’ll cover basic photography, the qualities of good lighting, composition, background materials, and how to set your camera's menus. Students will photograph their own pieces during class at instructor provided lighting stations.

Photoshop Classes
Students will learn to process, color correct and crop their photos of jewelry, glass beads, and other art objects using Photoshop CS5 and Elements 11 with an experienced professional photographer and glass artist. Exposure level optimizing, background removal, color balancing, print and online file formats will be covered. See how to extract objects from backgrounds, add new backgrounds, create photo realistic shadows and more. Students will learn how to create color accurate files of their art for use on their website, Etsy in magazine articles, books, portfolios and for juried competitions. Plus, how to purchase recent versions of Photoshop at far less than the full retail price.

Artists and craftspeople working in glass, metal clay, jewelry, beads, woodturning, ceramics, and all other genres are welcome to attend. Learning to set your camera and how to properly light your object is universal to everyone. Over 630 people have attended these classes across the US since 2011.

"Very well done. I learned a lot. Doug had the ability to work well with so many levels of expertise. Great job. Doug has an easy teaching style and is very patient. He explains things very well and I learned a lot. Thank you!" - Gayle Kosterman, student, 2016 Glass Craft Show, Las Vegas

"Amazing class in 7 hours. Can't believe how useful. Revelatory! So much stuff!" - Ron Joung, student, 2016 Glass Craft Show, Las Vegas

"Great class, good tutorials. Able to adapt to my own work! Awesome! Finally learned something in Photoshop! Thanks!" - Hope Morris, student, 2016 Glass Craft Show, Las Vegas

"It was a real pleasure to be in this class with a professional photographer. Doug is well organized and equipped with his presentation materials. The best presentation I have seen in a long time! - Thomas R. Farrell, student, 2016 Glass Craft Show, Las Vegas

"Your class was very valuable. Even though I have a photography background, you were able to show me things about "product photography" that I hadn't learned in school. The basic photoshop maneuvers you had us concentrate on was worth the class in itself. Glass artists don't want to become professional photographers. You were able to give us enough information to go at it ourselves with the confidence to produce decent photographs of our work." Howard Sandberg, owner, CBS Dichroic, Feb. 2015

Default Jewelry Photography Classes

Wow, these look like great classes -- do you know of anything similar on the East coast?

I don't know of any regularly scheduled classes on product Photography and Photoshop for Artists on the East Coast. Several years ago Bead Fest approached me about teaching after one of their staff photographers retired. He had been teaching Photography at BFs. I will be teaching my Photography class at Bead Fest Texas in 2018. This will be my first time with them so I have no idea of how many will attend. I know they host a BF in Philadelphia, but I'm not sure if I'll attend that one. Since I live in the West, at this time, the closest I'll be to the East Coast in 2018 will be the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee in June. I approached Urban Glass (NY) several years ago, but they were only interested if I was already in their area as part of another trip. Please check the class page on my website for all the class listings: dougbaldwinphoto.com/classes.html
