Which Oxygen concentrator for Lucio torch? does pressure matter?
I have a Lucio torch on order, my first torch and torch set-up! I cannot find the exact info I need on LE or out on the net, so I am hoping someone here knows more... please!
I am told the Lucio requires 8LPM and 4-7 psi in an oxycon. (It runs on .25 psi residential gas pressure.)
My two options for an oxycon are the EX-15, new for $1010, which is 8LPM and 15 psi,
or
a 2nd-hand one, the AirSep New Life Intensity 10 O2, which is up to 10LPM adjustable and 20psi, for $900. (I suspect I might be able to bargain it down to $800.)
I have heard that the EX-15 is very quiet, but compared to what? Would this Airsep one be significantly noisier? I cannot find any noise info on it.
The Airsep comes with 5 different kinds of alarms. Is that a significant advantage, or irrelevant to lampworking?
The Airsept has 5psi higher pressure. Is more pressure better, or is there any difference? Or is that actually detrimental when using low-pressure gas as fuel?
Then there is the issue of how long an oxycon lasts. I have no clue.
Is it better to just buy new?
Thank you for any advice you have to share with a newbie!

Go with the new EX-15, because for the price difference, it will be worth the extra for the 0 hours and warranty. This will be more than enough for that torch.

something is missing here.
a minor will barely run good on one ex15. a lucio burner is bigger then i minor.
dude you're going to need more then one oxycon for that torch.
and you can get an ex15 from Jack for about $350 + shipping.

Absolutely correct. Lower pressure usually means higher volume.
Check this link for requirements http://artistryinglass.on.ca/charts/...ortorches.html
Looks like 13 LPM, so at least 2 oxycons or tanked.
Also consider that running the machines at the full stated capability is likely to lower your oxygen purity

The Lucio is made to run on low oxy and gas. From Carlisle and confirmed by them....one EX15 is good. I haven't yet got mine so I can't say for sure.
My EX15 is not what I would consider quiet but, as you say, compared to what?

It is designed for soft glass and has a wider flame for working with larger pieces. Good choice!

Thanks for the replies.
The Ex-15 is available from my local glass and torch rental studio for $1010. Unlimited Oxygen won't ship to me as I am in Canada, so I thought I was stuck with that price.
I have now discovered I can get an M-15 oxycon for roughly half that amount from Jean at Nortel Glass. She says that is the equivalent of an Ex-15... anyone have an M-15 or an opinion on it?
In any case, financially, that seems to be the best choice!

M15 and EX15 are the same thing. one is made by Unlimited Oxygen (m series) and one is made by Extreme Oxygen (EX series) but both of them come from the same donor machine...the Respironics Millenium.
also, abr/dichroic imagery at one time had scratch and dent m/ex-15's for about $400. i've bought two of the s/d machines and they aren't scratched or dented lol.

Bedrock supply in Edmonton has lots of lamp working supplies
You should check it out. It is one of my most favorite places to teach and especially SHOP
Great classes. Great studio space
If you have any questions about what to use with your Lucio..... Give Carlisle a call. They know what you need to push any of their torches

just found this thread - the Lucio works great on an EX15, i've been working with that combo for about a couple years now.
