Default Leftover stringer/shorts made into frit

I just thought of this today. As I make Xmas beads I end up with lots of stringers, twisty ends and very short shorts of red, white, green, etc. I thought if I had a second little container of water I could just drop them while they are hot and be well on my way to making my own holiday frit mix.

The hot glass dropped into cool water causes cracks throughout the glass so it easily crumbles into frit. When I have a nice amount I pour off the water and dry it on paper towel. Then into my frit crusher but you can also use several layers of paper towel and a hammer on concrete.

I am using distilled water because the tap water has so much stuff in it that it causes a white precipitate on the glass.

Nice idea Robin, especially since you're using similar combos for the twisties.
