Default Nikon CoolPix 7600? Okay for Beginner?

Just tried a Casio Exilim EX-Z60 overnight, but with my limited experience I couldn't get good and close pictures of beads. Took it back and exchanged for a Nikon CoolPix 7600 which was on clearance for the same price. 7.1 megapixels, 3X optical zoom, and focus range starts at 4 cm. Is this going to be a good choice for my $250 price range? I can always exchange this one in a few days if it doesn't do the trick (the clerks at our Wal-Mart have been super helpful). Thanks for any input! (DS wanted the kool-aid guy in the post)

Nice camera! Don't forget the tripod!
