Default The new plan….

I guess this goes here???

Sorry I have not been as active around here lately… Life is happening.

My folks have a dream for years to open a campground, and to offer group retreats. I knew of this….

I was away in Italy playing with glass for two weeks and guess what happened….they found 51 acres and the perfect spot they snatched it up before I got home…. Mom and dad are thinking of fifteen or more nice wood cabins an open professional kitchen on grounds for any of the guests to use. Bird and or wildlife watching. There is a pond. They want to host weddings and large events and such and............................................... ................................

they have decided that it would rock if I opened a glassworks on the property and held classes or offered space for others to come and teach.

How cool does that sound!!! It’s all in the planning stages right now but it may happen in the next year!!! I got to get ready to move!!!!

Oh ya it’s in palestine tx

Photos

About 1/2the 10acer meadow (the other 41 acres is wooded)

A really cool tree with a happy face

Deer we have deer!!!

My mommy with a tree (Sorry I can’t get the photo to flip I am a photo epic fail.)

Iron ore on the hill they are calling a mountain

I will post more as things develop (most likely daily at the speed this is going so far )

Oh WOW, Kim!!! I'm so happy and excited for you. What a wonderful and tremendous idea to build cabins, set-up an area for special celebratory events and, last but not least, a teaching lampwork school of your own. I wish your mom, dad and you, above all, an exciting and intensely successful journey. You can count on me visiting when you're ready to receive visitors in the next many months or year. "You Go, Girl!"

How fun!!!! I'd go camping at a place that offered glass classes! You could run your own glass retreat weekends!

Where is Palestine, compared to Dallas/Allen/Denton?

DD lives in Allen, works in Dallas and sil works in Denton. Are you anywhere near them?

It’s sort of between Houston and Dallas off 45. on 79 between Centerville and Henderson, here is a map I don’t think I am explaining it well lol

That sounds amazing, and you get to be right there making things happen. Congratulations to your parents (& you too!) and can't wait to hear more!

How wonderful! I attend a 3 day scrapbooking retreat at a place with cabins & and conference space, it's one of the highlights of my year - at least when they schedule it when I can attend. (About every 3 years they manage to hit a weekend I'm free - this is NOT one of those years.) It's a great time when you can get a group of people together with common interests - work hard, play hard, just so much fun!

Oh beautiful land and place to have a camping area.
This would be a great place to have a glass retreat.
Also make sure you have other options of PMC and metal smithing.
OR even stained glass.
There are so many things you can h ave there.
Have some fun.

Wow! Beautiful area and what an excellent idea for a shop!
Down the line, and as it profits, it would be cool to have a couple of sheds or maybe a small building for classes and an actual retreat for glass artists - imagine, for the rest of us, of offering an actual retreat where you could get away from all the norm (kids, work, errands) for a solid weekend or week with either other glass artists or even have some come to you and do workshops. Peaceful setting, learning new technique, getting a week where you could work solid to build inventory for shows and all . . . ok I think I'm about to start the Homer drooling just at the thought. What a wonderful idea your folks have, I bet you are jumping out of your skin at the excitement of it! Congratulations, I know it will be incredibly successful and I wish you all the best in your family's new endeavor!
