Questions for the curious.......
Hello
I'm curious I guess. I've been seeing the beautiful disks val has been posting and I was sent a few from chris (snowfirebeads) and have been really loving the look............ SO, can boro be done on a cricket?
do you need 2 concentrators? if you do need 2 how would you hook them together?
AND, lastly, what would you recomend for someone that just wants to try a little? say something to make pink or blue disks? Do I need tons to mix?
Oh, one more question..........do you know if anyone sells a small mix at the show in vegas in march??
I think thats it........LOL for now anyways!!

The Cricket is a fine torch and it will do boro. Have made a lot of beads with that particular torch. Of course one will be limited to a maximum OD. Perhaps in the range of 18 to 25 mm. The larger will just take longer.
The Cricket will run fine on one 5 LPM at 5 or 10 PSI machine. It really comes to life with two 5 LPM machines.

I've worked Boro on a cricket. It's fine for smaller stuff, beads, marbles, off-mandrel etc. Keep one thing in mind though: due to it's rather unique properties, working boro on just about any other torch will be significantly different.

Ok, I'm not a big bead maker anyway so that sounds good. Is there a good thread to read about beginning?
Thanks for the info!!

sue, you certainly CAN make boro beads on a cricket with a 5lpm concentrator. If you ever want to come and play, just shout, I have boro. My best advice is to check on ebay for bags of shorts and seconds, it runs about 10 bucks a pound, you get an assortment to play with and its tons of fun.
if you will be at the guild meeting in Feb shout and remind me and I will bring some boro to play with. the only thing you must have is a really really strong bead release.
if you dont remind me, I wont remember..... life is sort of crazy these days... and I so enjoyed getting to meet you at last months meeting, I do hope we see you again soon.

Is there a glass show in vegas that deals more with borosilicate glass -with marble classes by good marble makers? Not the glass pipe one?

I'm so happy that my spiral discs helped to inspire you to play with Boro, Sue! You're going to love it. Send me an e-mail me, and I'll be happy to put together a bunch of colors for you to play with.
There are a whack of great threads right here in our little Boro room. Poke around, there is much to discover....and ask questions too - there are many talented good-hearted folk on this forum who lovee to offer up help and suggestions.
