What make and model?
Most oxycons have a Breaker/reset button that pops out just like a power strip.

Depending on whats happening the control board may need some compressed air to clean off dust and debris.
It might be a bad capacitor that needs replacing. .
A quick job but can be a bit much for most consumers.

I took the liberty of reading your edited post....

Not that unusual of a thing to have happen.

There should be a pop out button near where the power cord connects.

If it is not on the outside it might be inside.

Unplug it of course and take the cover off if you need to.

If something actually got burnt it should be pretty easy to see the scorch marks but the odds are good that it will have a button type circuit breaker that just needs to be pushed back in.

There may also be a 120 to 220 switch that will allow you to change the kind of input voltage it takes.

All of this should be near the hours counter on bottom in the back.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this kind of stuff most small engine or electrical repair places can give it a quick look see for not too much cost.
