Cattwalk ruffler questions.
I'm very curious about Cattwalk's ruffler. Anyone have one that is willing to share some info about it? It it a regular press or a plank? What is the difference? Do you need the base to use it? I have been staying away from Cattwalk presses because I don't want to buy a base but I really like beads I've seen made with the ruffler thing. Is it hard to use?

It is not hard to use but it is not a slam, bam, made a bead press.
Here is what it looks like, scroll down a bit:

Here is my tutorial for using it:

You don't really need a base but it sure makes things easier.

I think I would have had better success with the Ruffler if I had the base. I couldn't keep it steady enough to get a good press. I went ahead and bought a base with a press because I like Cattwalk's presses also and not having a base was stopping me from purchasing.

I do think the purchase of a base is wise. It takes away another level of frustration and is well worth $20 in the long run.

I totally agree. I fussed so much trying to steady everything, place the bead on fast enough to not loose too much heat and press the top on straight (which didn't happen)..needless to say it didn't work for me . I'm glad I have a base now.

I may not be looking in the right place but I didn't see a $20 base. I saw $60 and $80 bases.

When you buy a $60 tool the base is only an additional $20. I'm sure if you contacted Catt she would give you the same base price for the higher priced tool.

I found this press needed some practise after using a 'regular' press. I finally got some decent, not too skinny flowers from it, but haven't made many more. I guess I'm not a flower girl!

It makes really cool leaves too. I use it with and without mandrel for creating the texture for leaves. The grooves also give me a guide to adding extra leaf veins.
